Wayne's Story
Life
I was born in Portland, Maine and we moved to Ocala, Fl., when I was five years of age. My father was a chef at the Silver Springs Resturant. I learned to swim at the Springs when I was six years old and I really became a family to all those who worked at the Springs. I graduated from Ocala High School in 1966 and joined the U.S. Army. I went to Vietnam in 1966 and from there to Kaiserslauten, Germany. I got out of the Army in 1969 and went to work at Ross Allen's Reptile Inst., at Silver Springs milking rattle snakes and wrestling alligators and I was the Sheriff at Six Gun Territory Amusement Park at the Springs. I married my sweetheart Lynda and went to work on the Seaboard Coastline Railroad as an investigator. In 1973 the Lord called me to preach and I resigned from the railroad and went back to college where I graduated in 1978 and from there Lynda and I and our two boys went to the Caribbean as missionaries. I returned in 1988 and went to work with the Marion County Sheriff's Office as an administrator, and during that time I started the Shiloh Baptist Church of Belleview, Florida. I also went back to college and got another degree in Psychology and Counseling. I guess thats not bad for a young man who graduated from high school the last of his class. My college days and university days I graduated the top of my class with honors. Lynda and I have now been married 40 years and the Lord blessed us with two boys.
College
I really enjoyed my college days at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.. It really prepared me for the journey set before me. Lynda and I and our two boys were B.B.F.I missionaries for 14 years to British Honduras and Jamaica. In 1991 I started the Shiloh Baptist Church of Belleview, Fl., and the Lord has blessed us much. I thank the Lord for my education at Baptist Bible College. I have now retired from Shiloh Baptist Chu...Expand for more
rch, and accepted a new position as a Mental Health Specialist and Counselor in the state of Georgia for the US Government, working with the troops coming back from deployment oversea's. I truly love this job and this will probably be the last chapter in my book of life. Being an ex-Vietnam veteran my heart has "Always" been for those who go to war. When I retired from full-time ministry at Belleview, my family and I took a months cruise to Europe and we visited 15 countries. It was a joy to have my brother BOB and his wife Linda, my sister Jeanne, and our youngest son David to go on the cruise with Lynda and I. We also had our best friends Frank and Joyce Kruppa go with us. It was truly enjoyable visiting the 15 different countries. I just had my 60 physical and my doctor shared with me that for 60 I was in excellent health. I still run 3 miles a day and I truly try to stay in shape (though it gets harder). I think of all the good times I had growing up in Ocala, Fl.. The world is truly changing from when we were kids growing up in a protected "Leave It To Beaver" town like Ocala. As a Psychology major, I see so many hurting people today. As a certified Marriage Counselor I see so many marriages on the rocks of despair. I truly thank the Lord for sending me the love of my life, and this year we will celebrate 40 years of marriage. For those in the class of 66 who are Christians, I will meet you at the Pearly Gates. Then, we will have a class reunion that will last for eternity. May the Lord bless you all!!
Update 3/12/2009
When I'm not working Lynda and I like to ride our Harley and I love to fish and hunt. I shared with my Major this week that when I turn 62 I am officially going to retire. The world is changing and life is going by at a fast pace. When we finally retire Lynda and I will probably retire to the Caribbean of which we love very much.
