Wayne's Story

Wayne is from Mima, Washington. Wayne's schools include Tumwater High School. Wayne later attended Washington State University (Geology) . One of Wayne's favorite quotes is:""Mountains don't kill people, they just sit there..." Ed Viesturs "Be kind, be strong, be happy, and try hard." Craig Luebben (1960-2009) ...if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won't see why we go. What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is for..." George Leigh Mallory “I suppose at this point I should have said something consoling like, ‘He died doing what he loved’. But I couldn’t bring myself to say it. Nobody loves hanging from a rope and freezing to death”. Ken Kamler, M.D. (Everest expedition doctor) I don't believe in astrology. I'm a Sagittarius and we're skeptical. Arthur C. Clark "Adventure is another word for poor planning." Roald Amundsen “...the only guarantee in this fleeting market day we call life is that no matter how carefully you plod along, you’ll grow old and get sick, or a force will sneak up on you in the dark and snuff you like piss on a campfire. Nobody is going to remember your hardest bouldering problem or that you sent your project. After a few years nobody cares who got the gold medal or the gold for that matter. Nobody cares who sent what, when, where, why, how. The memories fade, then just disappear and all that remains is the impact you h...Expand for more

There can be no courage unless you're scared. Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, World War I US fighting ace. Stand your ground if you believe you're right; be courteous and gracious and effective in how you present your case; if you're in charge, listen to others who may advise you that you're wrong - hear what they have to say - discuss it. "Men from the West will fight over three things - water, women, and gold...and usually in that order." Barry Goldwater "Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting over." Mark Twain "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use." Galileo Galilee "To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first." Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh “When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure that an Adventure is going to happen.” ― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh "You're born, you live, and you die.
