Weldon's Story

Wow....it's been such a long time since we've all graduated from HS. Going on 20+ years now and it's been such an increadible ride so far! In a nutshell, following graduation, I continued to pursue my music career playing at clubs and concert events through out Hawai'i and on the west-coast. A couple of years later, I started working for Hawaiian Airlines, traveling as a musician as a member of their sales & marketing department. We performed for trade show events and travel conventions all over the world.....so much fun! I also took a civil service job at Pearl Harbor Navel Shipyard as a pipefitter apprentice. In 1988 I transferred with Hawaiian Airlines to WA state continuing my employment with Hawaiian Airlines and attended the University of Washington. Since music was always my passion, I hooked-up with other former HI residents who lived in the Seattle area and performed at local Hawaii party's, lu'au's and a couple Hawaiian-style resaurants in the Seattle and Tacoma area, namely "Lahaina Louie's" and "Ha'iku Gardens". Those places have closed down since. In 1993, it was time for me to move back home to Honolulu. Still employed by Hawaiian Airlines, I did lots of traveling. I enjoyed the ocean and surfed as much as I could. I started paddling canoe again, with Hui Nalu during the regualr season and then with Anuenue for long distance. Great, great memories. I eventually settled down and married a Ka'imuki girl I met in WA state. We both were a part of the Hawaii Club at the university and dated for a while. We hooked-up again in 1995 and got married soon after. I continued to play music through this entire time, and in 1998 decided I was ready to record and release my first CD. Since ...Expand for more
then I've recorded 3 of my own solo CD's and 2 CD's with my group, not to mention many, many other compilations and small projects I'v been involved with over the years. My wife, Rona is 1986 graduate from 'Iolani School and works for Hawaii Community Foundation. We have 3 daughters, Melia (12), Moea(10) & Haili(5), all of whome really enjoy playing volleyball. My two older daughters attend 'Iolani and my youngest daughter is at Central Union Pre-school. We still live in Ka'imuki and will be rebuilding our house next year! (yah!) It's been about a year now since I separated myself from Hawaiian Airlines and devoted my full attention to my music career which has certainly grown to become my life's passion. Its allowed me to do what I love to do and support and provide for my family. Since I choose and select my own bookings, I'm able to spend maximum time with my family, especially my daughters. I thinks it's especially important for daughters to be close to their dads! Anyways....my last CD was release about 6 months ago. I'm continuing to work hard and to have good performances. The Na Hoku Hanohano Music Awards are coming up agian in May. It'd be good for me to come away with something this year. The last award I received was back in 2002. I'm hoping for the best! Nowdays most of my traveling and touring takes me to Japan a lot. I go there perhaps once every two months. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Last year I traveled there 15 times! The trips are so much fun. Whenever possible, my family travels with me. They get a real kick out of it all! I'll be touring with Kealii Reichell and Na Leo later this year (2008), so check my web-site to see if I'll be in your neighborhood! Aloha~
