Wende's Story

Life After graduating from Ohio University in 1994, I moved to Bloomington, Illinois for a job with State Farm Insurance (go figure). Was there for 5 years, where I met and married my husband and had my son Griffin. In 2000, I returned to Ohio, living and working in Sandusky with the "Farm". In March 2002, I divorced my husband and within the year moved to Centerville, Ohio which is where I am at today. With my son at my heels, we live in a great community with an incredible school district, and have never been happier. I am in a position with the "Farm" that gives me a great deal of flexibility to be the kind of single-mom I want and need to be. As for the current love-life, well, you'll just have to ask me... School High school was great, and I do miss it at times. Fortunately I've got a lot of great memories on print and video. So keep this in mind if any of you ever run for a government office! :) What I miss most, though, is how unique we were coming from a very small school. We had our clique's, yet we all got along and even partied together. I was happy to be at the center of it, offering up my home when the parent's would go out of town! Lord knows those stories could write a book all by themself. College I attended Kent State University Trumbull Branch for my first year of college and then went on to Ohio University in the fall of 1991. I highly recommed going away from home for your secondary schooling, what an experience! I jo...Expand for more
ined a social sorority, which was short lived. It wasn't for me. I became extremely active in my major which was Television Production. I directed live newscasts, and produced my own live 'Entertainment Tonight-type' show my entire senior year. I was president of my professional sorority, which was well worth it. No pressure. I had great friends that went on to do great things in the entertainment industry, and I enjoy riding on their coat-tails of fame. And much to my surprise, I graduated with honors and was recognized for some of my accomplishments in the College of Communication. Workplace With the start of my college years, I worked as a waitress at Champion Chicken & Pizza in Warren, Ohio. While at OU, I did odd jobs, but nothing permanent because I was too wrapped up in my major. In the off months I either went back to the pizza shop or I interned with State Farm. Fortunately, I was able to get a job centered around my major initially with State Farm. When I wanted to move back to Ohio, I took a position in claims helping people recover from the unexpected. I am currently a part of a specialized unit that deals with "large losses", basically where people lose everything, which most of the time is due to fire. It's a rewarding position in that I get to help people at the most devastating time of their life, next to death, which I see often also. Military No military service, although I've always been a sucker for a man in uniform!!!
