Wendy's Story
Life
From my days in high school or college in G'ville, I do not think I could have predicted a career path in IT at a brokerage firm. And I certainly never thought I'd still be living in Clearwater, FLA. But, here I am. Single, never-married, no kids. (Know any nice, eligible, Jewish men?) I've been working since 1990 at Raymond James (the brokerage firm, not the stadium). I've advanced from "Programmer Trainee" to "Senior Systems Analyst," primarily coding in VB and Cobol. Outside of work, I'm still a sports nut, participating in fantasy baseball and football and am one of the few who attends D-Rays games (Cardinals are still my main team). I'm a member of Hadassah and Cong. Beth Shalom in Clearwater. I can still be found weekly at Pinellas Park High--but now it is as a Doorways Mentor/Tutor.
School
My biggest crush was on a very good-looking, charismatic young man in a youth group outside of PPHS. One time we went to a conference toget...Expand for more
her in Tampa, and he drove, so it was just the two of us in his car, and I could let my imagination run wild. But my crush was totally unrequited--he was completely out of my league!
Ms. Susan Early (still a PPHS Language Arts teacher, but in the Criminal Justice Academy Magnet Program) inspired me the most. Not because I want to be a writer. But the lessons in expository writing got me through many a college class. And her reading list included many Jewish authors, and reading their works helped me to stay connected to my roots and my faith after moving away from Long Island, New York.
Would I do High School over again? Probably not. If I were to do it again, it wouldn't be because I miss my youth so much as I have regrets about things I may have said or done...or things I never did.
I can't think of any particular funny, happy or crazy memories. I certainly remember many good times, but nothing that seems worth "spilling" 20+ years later!
