Wendy's Story

Life Went to school forever for doctorate, spent 3 years as school/developmental psychologist, - loved the classes but hated the actual work - and then changed fields and so it was back to school for yet another degree, this time in computer science. Have loved my work with computers both programming and systems/network administration. Was writing and teaching, managing computer systems at a university for ten years, then a web developer for Univ. of Fla. Shands hospital & college of medicine. In 2005 i started a web development business, small clients on evenings and Sundays. Also teach/tutor kids Hebrew a few afternoons a week. Lived in Israel several years and traveled a LOT. Loved camping and scuba diving. (I can't believe i wound up back in Florida - i was sure i'd be anywhere but FLA.) Finally settled down. Married a great, funny guy, we have a terrific, funny, sweet kid who is in college in NYC. (May 2009- she just graduated both Columbia and Jewish Theological Seminary and started working for a non-profit agency in NYC. 2013 - now she's working at Columbia.) Beat ovarian cancer in 1993-96. Can't live a day without listening to music (any kind), having a good laugh, gardening, swimming, chatting with friends or reading the newspaper. Have lots of friends over regularly for pot-luck Shabbat-Friday night dinners. Love movies, going out for Sunday brunch with friends, veggie garden, swimming, live theatre, reading fiction & non-fiction. Update 2009: Started my own web development/web programming business, Web Design Kinetix. Now i get to work from home in pjs or, if ...Expand for more
i get really dressed up, i put on jeans & t-shirt. Sweet. - wb School Where would i have been without AP American History with Reid Bernstein? Although it was a class about history, the skills she refined in all her students were writing and research. Who could ever forget the unending reports about a topic in history that required a college library to research. And then there were the grades. On our first paper, i recall the highest grade in the class that was earned was a D with many minus signs trailing behind it. Oh how i wished i had done that well! As our use of language improved, we were then held accountable for spelling and punctuation - each mistake could cost a letter grade. By the time i completed the class, i was ready to write for college and beyond, although i did not know that at the time. At the time i felt only joy that this tough class was over. It was only later when i had to write papers for college, grad school and for business, breezing through the research and earning high marks from professors and bosses, that i understood what an amazing gift i had received. When my own daughter started in middle school, my husband and i encouraged her to take the tougher classes, and i hoped she too would take AP History. She did, though in her case she would likely credit her AP English and IB Biology teachers for her writing skills. I spent 3 years working as a developmental/school psychologist. I saw how tough it is to teach. That anyone goes into the profession is amazing. That any of us learn, is, to me, an even greater measure of teachers' dedication.
