Wendy's Story
My family moved into the QV school district on my twelfth birthday. I went to Fair Oaks Elementary for a couple of weeks, then transferred to the brand new Edgeworth Elementary. Probably because we lived on the same street, Kim had the honor of touring me around my new digs. In junior high and high school, my schedule included mostly honors, german and art classes. I participated in pep club, german club, Bittersweet, math league and perhaps a few other assorted associations. I especially enjoyed being one of the first ones (with Shari) spinning onto the gym floor at most of our school dances! Also, I frequented discos (what an era)!
I continued my education at Cal, where I studied (?) Special Education. I enjoyed going to parties at Pi Triton and the Delts, when they had that green house. Sig Tau parties stunk, they always kicked out the guys and poured bleach or ammonia on the floor while we were still in there. I played rugby with Michelle, Carolyn, Chris, Margaret and many others, and drank a lot of beer. I only lived on campus my first year, then had an assortment of apartments, ultimately living alone down in Coal Center, in an apartment above what is now Lagerhead's. My last semester, I student-taught in Cape Cod with Charmaine.
After graduating, I decided I never wanted to see snow again, so I found a job in Houston, TX and moved there. I bought a perfect little townhouse and quickly tired of living the single life. I got married in '88, had my first daughter, Emma, in '90, and moved back east to be closer to family. I ended up in Delaware, where my second daughter, Katy, was born. Fortunately, I was able to stay ...Expand for more
home with them when they were small. We got a boston terrier and named him Batley. We shared many happy years until he crossed the rainbow bridge.
Around the time Katy started preschool, difficulties in my marriage prompted me to move back to Sewickley and return to the work force. I began working at a private school in downtown Pittsburgh, teaching Adult Basic Education. That and several part-time jobs (Sewickley Public Library, CCAC SAT prep)kept me very busy. Then, I met my current husband, Jim, who decided he wanted to give me a better life! We married in 2005 and enjoy peace and tranquility. He came to the marriage with two children, and his daughter has blessed us with five grands!
My Emma graduated with distinguished honors from QV in 2008, and completed her undergrad at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and her master's in mathematics at Rice University. She teaches math at San Jacinto College and has blessed us with two beautiful granddaughters. My Katy cheered at QV and graduated with honors from Slippery Rock with a doctorate in physical therapy after having completed her undergraduate in exercise science. We lived in the house my family moved into in 1976...but my parents moved to Florida shortly after we got here. My mother passed away in September 2023.
We got lucky and Jim’s work with homeland security allowed us to move to Hawaii in 2016. I NEVER DREAMED I’d get to live in paradise, and it was spectacular! Unfortunately, COVID and some family situations forced us to return to the mainland. We live in Friendswood, TX not far from Emma and our grands. All in all, LIFE IS GOOD! I'd love to hear from old friends.
