Wendy's Story
Life
After highschool and graduating from UVIC I had my first teaching job in Powell River, B.C. This lasted for 3 years at which time I couldn't get a leave of absence from school,so I quit for a year of travel in Europe. When I got back to Powell River I married and had my son Michael. Since there were no teaching jobs at that time (1985), I applied and got a job here in sunny southern California. Just Michael and I made the move to the desert where we have resided now for 20 years. I met and married my current husband, Ken in 1991 and both Michael and I have permanent "Alien" status here in the states. Michael has now joined the army and is serving over in Iraq even though he is still a Canadian. Ken & I travel back to Canada every 2 years and have kept in touch with a couple of friends from high school. My husband loves to play golf and travel in B.C. as well as travel other places. We traveled to Europe during the summer of 2002 and again during the summer of 2004 and look forward to more travelling in the future. We have also just bought a new trailer and plan on caravaning up to B.C. & the Calgary stampede this summer with freinds.
College
After graduating from EHS in 1971 I went directly into UVIC where I earned my teaching degree in 1976. Afte...Expand for more
r teaching in Powell River off and on for 10 years I accepted a job in California and was told by the state that I would need to complete a 'fifth year' requirement. They didn't recognize my professional year from UVIC, so in 1991 I took classes through Azuza Pacific University and did 30 units towards a masters degree in administration. I've sworn off school since then.
Update April 27, 2010
Ok - it has now been almost 25 years since I started teaching in California and now my husband and I are about to start a new adventure. We are both retiring from teaching June 1st (the end of our school year here is May 26th) and we are eventually going to end up in The Villages, Florida - an over 55 golf community. In the meantime we have sold our home and have been living in our 5th wheel since December. We are planning a 3 1/2 month trip up to B.C., across some of the provinces, down through the states and ending up at our new home about September 15th. We are actually in the process of building as I write this, with a closing date of May 26th. It's all very exciting and scary at the same time. It's a good time to get out of California and since our 2 sons are located in Alabama and Oregon, there's not too much to hold us here. Only 21 more days of school to go!!!!
