Wendy's Story

Life My life has been such fun but I have lost touch with some wonderful people and really hate that. It would be so wonderful if I were able to find them again. I taught school on an Indian Reservation in Window Rock, Arizona and met my husband while attending graduate school in Flagstaff, AZ. After we married, we moved to the island that he comes from, Yap in Micronesia. It was a very difficult adjustment for me. The heat was unbearable, the culture was shocking and I can't believe I made it! We lived there for 2 years, then came back to the States.... Thank God!! He joined the Navy after a fruitless search for employment and so far we have done 23 years of military life together. He serves the country, I do the worrying. We lived in Yap and Colorado (prior to his enlistment) California, Japan, Connecticut, and now Virginia. My favorite place was Japan. It was fun to see and experience such a different culture. I have 3 daughters whom I love dearly and 3 grands (2 boys and 1 girl.) There is something really wonderful about grands!! They are sooo cool and love you so totally. I teach high school and when I go to work I feel like I just play all day, I still play the piano, ride a motorcycle and love living my life. I love hearing from people so drop me a note and I will answer. :o) Summers I usually go on trips. My husband hardly ever gets leave in the summer, so I usually am toodling around by myself. Sometimes I go on my motorcycle. I did 4000 miles on one trip but that was a bit much. I got WAY too tired. Usually I fly out to Colorado and see my mom who lives in Southern Colorado. I just bought the top of a mountain near Colorado Springs last summer and plan on building a house that I designed when my husband retires. If things work out the way they are supposed to, I will be able to do whatever I want. Yeah, right! :) I guess my title in the family is fun and games manager. We love camping, skiing, mountains, beaches, high class hotels. It doesn't matter. We love life. Our motto is that we travel outward until half the money is gone. Then it is time to turn around and come home cuz if it took that much money to go out, it will take that much to come back. No debt that way. :) Well, that is the general outline. If you want to talk, just give me a shout out! I'd love to hear from you. School My biggest crush shall remain nameless, but used to walk me home and we would kiss a lot. :) That is a happy one! Mrs. Roehr, my English teacher, inspired me and actually made me want to give back to my students, all that she gave to me. Some loved her, some didn't but I can say without a doubt that she loved me, and probably saved my life when my spirit was almost completely crushed. I am glad that I am out of high school..... oh, wait!! I still am in high school since I teach it, but wouldn't be a student again for any amount of money. The anxiety is tremendous and unless you are in the environment, you forget what horrible pressure kids are under. My happiest moments were when I was in a play, or MANY of the moments I had while working at Pahaska Teepee. That was a wonderful place of freedom for a girl who basically had none at home. Probably my craziest high school memory was when I cut my very last class, my senior year. I had never cut a class before and was terrified so I ran out of the building, all by myself, hid in a clump of stickery bushes and waited for the bell to ring. What a thrill. :) I wish I could have raised my kids in a wonderful town like Powell. It is really special to be in a place where "everyone knows your name," even if it takes away all freedom. :) God bless those lovely people in that wonderful town. They were sooooooooo good to us...Expand for more
!!! College Goodness! College took me forever! I didn't have enough money for full-time, so I took 7 instead of 4 years. I made wonderful friends, horrible enemies and learned about betrayal for the first time. It is very shocking, that all the world isn't a nice place. Pizza in the middle of the night. Working 3 jobs plus study put me in the hospital for 8 days. That was VERY terrifying! The president of the college came to my house cuz I couldn't even get up. I called my dad, all the way up in Wyoming, who called the pres. He came and picked me up, rush me to the emergency room and I didn't come out for quite a while. It was hard for me. People thought I was brassy. Someone even came up to me and said they hated it when I sang cuz I was so stuck-up. For someone with fear issues, that was horrifying. I didn't sing any more. I didn't know what I wanted to be, didn't know why I was there except that my parents said I had to go. I was lost. Except for one lovely young man... A man in the Army who wrote to me all the time for 2 awesome years. A letter from him put light in my heart for the longest time. Then another letter would come. I do think he was the only person that wrote to me... When he got close to ending his tour, he disappeared out of my life. I was so scared! Viet Nam was taking my friends, he was in Germany but I was so scared that he had died. I still don't know if he is alive or not. I have looked for him forever. Maybe some day I will have the wonderful experience of finding him again. Maybe his name is here at Classmates. I HOPE SO!!! I found someone with his name. Maybe that guy will answer me. That would be wonderful. I FOUND HIM!! WOW! :) Workplace I am a teacher!! Think of that! The aimless college student found her calling! I started teaching at a Navajo Indian Reservation in Window Rock, AZ. While there, I went back to school, completely shocking everyone I know, and got a master's degree. That was FUN! Met my husband and we married in 1981. Still married. :) We moved to the island that he comes from, Yap in Micronesia, and lived there for 2 years where I taught. Came back to the States, THANK GOD!!!, and he joined the Navy. We have lived in California, Japan, Connecticut and Virginia where I have had teaching jobs. They have all taught me wonderful things that I used in my classroom. I am a VERY unusual teacher. I HATE being bored and think that my students must hate it as well, so I entertain all of us. I LOVE teachign because it lets me use all the creative energy I have. When I go to work, I play ALL DAY!! What a hoot. To play all day. I used to wish I could do that, now I do. HURRAY!! Some teachers labor, very seriously. Not me!! I have fun and my students learn buckets. They test super high on their exit exams and I am a happy camper. My principals are not so happy. I scare them They try to make me "behave" but I have been bullied by sooooo many people who thought I ought to be different than I am... Too bad for my principals! They worst thing they can do to me is take away my birthday. Would that be so bad?? I think not! If my kids didn't learn, that would be something else, but when learning is fun, where's the harm in that. My classes are full, I never have discipline problems, even with all the "problem" kids they put in my classes. Why would they give me problems? They have fun in my room. I teach 11 and 12 graders. Poor babies.. Those 12 graders think they are done with the hard part of life. If they only knew! So, now I am an actor, a singer, I paint, decorate, help people with horrifying problems, read books... all the things I love to do. What a wonderful thing having a job that I love.
