Wendy's Story
Life
After high school, I left for the Army. What a fun thing to do the summer after graduation! I studied a foreign language at the Presidio of Monterey in California. I was permanently injured (bum foot) during training and ended my military career a year later. After spending 2 and a half years in the Army, I came home and worked for a government contractor and then as an HR generalist with an Orlando company.
Through some mutual friends, I met and married an Oak Ridge Pioneer (class of 84). When my youngest was two, I stopped working to take care of my boys. When Chris was in fifth grade, I finally went to college, first at Valencia and then at UCF where I will be graduating in a few weeks with a Bachelors in Education, summa cum laude and top honor graduate. With the teacher hiring freeze, I don't know whether I will be teaching next year (I would love to teach fourth grade) or if I will start my Masters which I am scheduled to begin in a few years. Joe and I have been married for fourteen years (awesome guy) and we have two boys, Grayson (age 18) and Chris (age 13). Never ...Expand for more
thought I would have married or had kids.
We still live in Orlando where we have a dog and lots of kitties. This is a year of change for us, Grayson graduates from high school, Chris starts high school, and I finish college. We realized after I started school, that we would have somebody in college for twelve years straight. What were we thinking?
In my spare time, I am active with Boy Scouts, Sea Cadets, Osceola County Amateur Radio Emergency Services, Civil Air Patrol and potentially with the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra in support of my son, Chris.

School
I was inspired most by Mrs. Weiner and Ms. Leon.
Ms. Leon used to sneak me off campus for lunch occassionally. We lost touch several years ago when she moved away from the Orlando area after the birth of her twins. She went on to have another son and daughter. Aida tragically died after suffering for years with a debilitating genetic disease.
Mrs. Louise Weiner and I kept in touch for several years until she retired from teaching.
I miss their wisdom, guidance, and friendship very much.
