Wendy's Story
Life
After CHS I headed up to Athens for college. I graduated from UGA with an ABJ in Advertising in May '99. I spent about 2 months in Birmingham after graduation and moved out to Phoenix, AZ with my family that July.
I am a lucky girl and met my best friend, Mike, at my first real job in early 2000. We had a beautiful but warm wedding (110 degrees) here in Scottsdale on June 8, 2002. Two months later I went back to school at ASU for my MBA while working full time. We live in Tempe and work in Phoenix.
I spent 5 years at Cox Media (ad sales division of Cox Communications), most recently as a Research Specialist. Mike is still there, working in Master Control. In November 2004 I accepted a position as a Strategic Planning Analyst at the Arizona State Retirement System.
On March 6, 2007, our daughter was born. Katy Rose is a sweet, happy and healthy baby. I could not ask for a more wonderful blessing than being a mom.
School
Most of my happy memories of high school were from being on the flagline and yearbook staff. Oh, and I can't neglect to mention Ms. Nicol and her Latin classes! Outside of school and flagline I hung out with my boyfriend & friends from church most of the time, none of which went to CHS.
Outside of those things, I think I was trying really hard to march to a different drummer. I would probably have done a few things differently if I had to do it again. Like the time I got Saturday School... I'd figure out how to get on Ms. Jolle's good side before that incident happened. She was anything but jolly.
I would have liked to be more assertive and less shy back then. I think I was a little better senior year, but I have tons of older yearbooks full of "Wendy, You are so nice. Stay Sweet" and "Wish I could have known you better." What a bummer, to think ...Expand for more
that you spend all day, every day with all these people, and maybe one or two of them knows anything about you.
So I have to tell stories about The Flying Tomato and other adventures instead. My 1982 Toyota Tercel, a.k.a. The Flying Tomato, was my $700 pride and joy. A 5-speed with no a/c and paint the color of tomato soup... we had lots of fun times in that tin can. I only had four short years with it, most of which were in college, but it still holds a dear place in my heart. Did you know that 11 girls could fit in that car? I still can't believe that actually happened except that it wasn't long after that when I was stranded on 316 with a broken timing belt. Still, I have no regrets.
College
College was a blur of a lot of fun and a lot of bad times packed into four years. I am proud to call myself a UGA Alumna and I'm glad I am a Sigma Kappa, but not so much because of the times I had there during undergrad. It means more to me now that I am "in the real world" instead of that alternate universe known as college. I am happier now in AZ than I ever was in GA, but don't get me wrong--I have tons of great memories. I'm just glad I survived the whole thing! I do miss my second home, Blue Sky Coffee... and seeing Five Eight at 40 Watt... late night dancing at GA Theatre... the best place to get fries & feta--The Grill... downtown and North Campus... the way they lit the trees downtown in Nov/Dec... hanging out at Tate between classes. Those were the fun times I won't forget.
Workplace
I am a Strategic Planning Analyst with the Arizona State Retirement System (since November 2004). After my graduation from UGA, I spent five years at Cox Media. I started as a traffic coordinator in 1999, became a sales assistant in 2001, and spent my last two years there working as a research specialist.
