Wes's Story
Life
After Highschool I attended the U of Sask for 1 year in Arts & Science, then the Saskatoon Business College where I got my Secretarial Diploma w/honours. My first (full time) job was with the CNR in Saskatoon Area Office in the Locomotive Management Dept. After about 6 months I got a job with Intercontinental Packers in the Order dept. After 2 years I got into the Sales dept as a relief salesman. One year later I had my own route which covered the area NorthEast of Saskatoon. When the company decided to install a mainframe computer I was drafted into the Programming Department (against my wishes). Computers in the mid to late 60's were huge and there was little in pre-packaged programming like today. So I was trained as a Programmer. This led to Programmer-Analyst and then System Analyst. pward in the department was very fast and I soon became a Senior Analyst which expanded my world into many other companies which needed such people. I worked for a year at Federated Co-operatives Ltd., took 6 months off and was hired back at Intercontinental Packers. About 3 years later I accepted a job with Escom Systems which took me to Edmonton. Two years later I joined Barber Engineering & Controls Ltd where I was the DP Manager until my retirement in 1997 - Freedom 54.9 actually came true.
Since my working days I have travelled extensively throughout the world. My favourite mode of transport has become cruises on freighter ships (container ships, RORO ships, etc) ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months at a time.
I still live in Edmonton (Millwoods area) and would love to have visits from former classmates.
