Wesley's Story
Life
Married to Deb VanDussen (Meridian 1977) since 1979. We have one kid a daughter 18 years old (looks a lot like Deb!). She is starting college in a San Antonio.
Living in Galveston, Texas for 25 years. Survived several hurricanes and looking at another active hurricane season. Took a BIG hit with hurricane Ike last year. Had 5 1/2 feet of water in our house lost all our furniture, lots of old kid stuff, many tools (especially electric), all electronics, kitchen electric appliances, etc, etc. Saved most of our clothes, shoes, bedding, many kitchen dishes/silverware, dogs.
Our small church kind of fell apart after the hurricane so we are just starting with another small non-denominational church.
Have three dogs (two Toy Poodles, 3rd one - my dog! - a rescue mutt from the animal shelter he's quite the handfull).
Recently bought a damaged house (as are 75% of all housing in Galveston now.) We have been working on restoring the house for about five months, almost done!
My F-I-L is 83yrs and has come out of retirement and is working daily on our 'new' house fixing it back up. We had nothing usable from 4' on down (house got 26" of water in it) almost everything had to be repl...Expand for more
aced. We have rebuilt two bedrooms, three closets, just finished the kitchen and laundry room (wow! that's expensive), living and dining rooms. We have been living in the upstairs (two bedrooms, bathroom, small living rm). We are almost finished.
College
After the Army went back to school at Delta College. Transferred to Michigan State U. during 1977, graduated in 1979 with a BA in Communication (a pretty worthless degree, I might add).
Moved to Galveston, Texas.
Went back to school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and received a BSN in nursing in 1990.
Decided to retrain myself while I was looking at getting fired as a public relations person for the University of TX. Best career move I made. Recently got back into nursing school should be a Family Nurse Practitioner in about a year and a half, from there . . . who knows?
Workplace
Since I became a RN in 1990 I've worked in Pediatric Oncology, Adult Med/Surg, 3-11 House Supervisor, Home Health/Hospice (great job!), Dialysis and currently (since 2000) as a Research Coordinator for a Shriner Burn Hospital in Galveston.
