William's Story

I don't really care how any old friends remember me. After school they went their way and I went mine. Never really looked back. I always wanted to be a railroader when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a was a job I wasn't cut out for idea. As it turns out, they were right, I lasted six months, then quit. When daily stress gets to me I take a long walk or watch TV,mostly old movies or work on model railroad. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a variety of work, management that has a clue about the work being done or at least keeps off my back , and the ability to get outside during breaks to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I don't have and haven't had anyone I would consider a "hero". My inspiration comes from teaching myself how to do things which inspires me to try new things. Lived in The Lehigh Valley my entire life. Any moves were for economic reasons. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is a girl I knew a long time ago, no names, because as the years have gone by I sometimes wonder what might have been. My interests are photography, mainly railroads and nature, vintage aircraft, model railroading and history. If I won $100 million, I'd give a quarter of it to charities or those in need, then spend the rest on family, a house and land, new photo equipment, travel and a custom built model railroad. If I got only one do-over, it would probably be in regard to the girl I mentioned earlier. In 10 years, I hope to be ALIVE. I'm going to get there by making it through one day at a time, I ...Expand for more
hope. My first job was at Rileigh's Inc., where I got paid minimum wage, $3.25/hour to set up Christmas displays in shopping malls. What I remember most about it is while loading a truck one very cold night I nearly froze my hands and now my fingers go numb or are very painful as soon as the weather gets cold.. What I remember most as a kid was the freedom to go and play almost anywhere in town, riding bikes, and pick-up baseball games with our own ground rules, basically the freedom to make our own fun. Update, Been at my current job for 16 years, quite the feat for me considering my past employment. I guess age can change your attitude to work and life. Working with good people will too. Still photographing trains and other things, with the crazy dream of seeing my photos in a book someday. Here's to making it through the next 3,650 days. As I get older I start thinking about a question I've heard asked. "If you had to do all over again would you change anything?" Well for me the answer would be, 'I wouldn't want to go back if I couldn't change things' no need to relive the same mistakes. I've seen where this road goes, mostly by myself, no need to go down it again. "Life is a journey, not unlike like being tethered to a senile old mule, it takes you where it wants, when it wants, anyway it wants. The reins in your hand are just an illusion of control. If you try to pull it, it will bite you in the ass. If you try to push, it will kick you in the head. It's a trip, sit back and go along for the ride". Next time I'll take the other road.
