William's Story

Military SPECIAL AGENT WILLIAM C. BROWN Special Agent Brown entered the Air Force in February 1983. After graduating basic training and the Bioenvironmental Engineering Technical School, Brooks Air Force Base, TX, he was assigned to the 21st Medical Group, Peterson Air Force Base, CO. While assigned at Peterson, his responsibilities included direct support to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex (NORAD). In June 1985, he was assigned to the 39th Medical Group, Ankara Air Station, Turkey. His responsibilities included providing direct support to the US Embassy, the Ambassador’s Residence and the Joint United States Military Maneuvers Assigned in Turkey (JUSMMAG) Command Facility. While assigned to Ankara Air Station, he applied and was accepted by AFOSI. On 10 January 1986, he married Juliana M. Becker, formerly a resident of Atlanta, GA. In November 1986, he was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 514, Chanute Air Force Base, IL. During the period of December 1986 through March 1987, he attended the AFOSI Special Investigations Course, where he graduated as a member of Class 87A, Duties at Chanute were mainly in the fraud arena. In August 1990, he was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 522 (AKA: 6901 and 7032), Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Duties there included direct support to Desert Storm and Desert Shield as the XOQA Chief, as well as liaison duties with the Turkish representatives in Silopi, Turkey to establish and open the first group of Kurdish refugee facilities in Southeastern Turkey. In addition, he was the lead investigator for the terrorist killing of a US citizen in downtown Adana, Turkey. In January 1993, SA Brown was assigned to Robins Air Force Base, GA. intelligence Section as well as working numerous fraud investigations. Of note, he was assigned as the logistics, facilities acquisition and special evidence custodian for a CONUS-wide joint service Task Force Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office investigation which resulted in a recovery of over $400 million in material and critical technology destined for non-allied and third world countries. During this assignment, he was approached by and subsequently joined the ranks of the AFOSI Counterespionage program. After attending the Counterespionage Case Officer’s Course in June 1996, he was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 432, Patrick Air Force Base, FL. In July 1998, he was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 621, Yokota Air Base, Japan. After reorganization in June 1999, he moved to AFOSI 62d Field Investigations Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan, where his Counterespionage mission included both 5th Air Force and the 13th Air Force areas of responsibilities. In July 2000, SA Brown moved from the Counterespionage Branch to the Counterintelligence Section of Detachment 621 to fill a critical manpower shortage. In July 2001, SA Brown was reassigned to the 2nd Field Investigations Region, Langley AFB, VA, to work in the Counterintelligence Division managing the Counterintelligence investigations program. On Jul 2002, SA Brown’s duties were expanded to include managing the 2nd FIR Counterespionage program. In 2003, SA Brown moved over to the 2 FIR Plans and Programs branch. SA Brown went on terminal leave on 5 Nov 2004, with an official retirement date of 1 Feb 2005. SA Brown is married to the wonderful Juliana (Becker) Brown of Atlanta, GA. Together they have three great children, Cheryl, David and Jessica.
