William's Story
Two weeks after graduation in June 1976, Michael Crowder and I headed to Great Lakes IL for Navy boot camp. After failing the swimming test (still can't swim), and then suffering a back injury, Michael and I were split up. I finished boot camp about 3 weeks after Mike did. I went on to spend 20 years in the Navy and finally retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1996.
I spent the first 15 years of my Navy career in Virginia and then transferred to Florida in 1991. After 20 years of banging my body around sailing the high seas, I came to appreciate the warm Florida weather and decided to stay.

ou will find me listening to anything from Beetoven to Parliament, but mostly Jonathan Butler or Robert Cray.
At the same time I will usually be watching a NASCAR race or NFL football. If you are a NASCAR fan, you will know what the numbers 24 & 48 mean. Even though we have 3 NFL teams in Florida, I am still a die hard Redskins fan.
I am currently unmarried. I have two children and three grandchildren who reside in the Virginia Beach area.
Life is good and I'm loving it.
I always wanted to be a boxer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were right. I did a little boxing while in the Navy. I never lost a fight at 134 pounds. At 160 pounds I found out that they didn't fall down when I drop a hard right hand on them....and they hit a lot hard.... hummm... time for a career change.
My hero is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I have a collection of his speeches in my office for whenever I need inspiration.
