Bill's Story

After high school, Providence College, and graduate school (for a Ph.D. in English literature), I taught English and Comparative Literature for 40 years at John Jay College (City University of New York) and at the Graduate Center (CUNY), from which I retired in 2007. Married for 47 years, my wife Edvige, and I have a son (Will) and twin daughters (Daniela and Elena). Elena and her husband Luca Sergio have two sons: Roberto, born in 2011 and Alessandro, born in 2014 . During our teaching years, Edvige and I spent six sabbatical years doing research in Italy -- in Tuscany and in the 12th century town in the Abruzzo mountains where she was born. g in a small country town near Florence, the children spent two years in Italian public schools and acquired fluent Italian. This made it possible for them to double-major in college (Will and Daniela went to UVa, while Elena attended Georgetown) and has also served them professionally (Will is an investment professional, Elena teaches Italian at Xavier HS in NYC, and Daniela lives in Bologna, Italy, where she is an administrator at the Johns Hopkins U graduate school). During retirement, Edvige and I have been spending half the year in Florence and in Abruzzo, Confirmed New Yorkers when back in the U.S., we live in Forest Hills (Queens). I'd enjoy hearing from high school friends.
