William's Story

William D'Andrea (Mr. Harborfields Class of '63) Hello my fellow former classmates. I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at the Reunion. Most of my life hasnt been all that interesting; so I'm only going to write about the interesting parts. To begin with, I am now a published writer. I have been writing for more than 40 years. Before the advent of personal computers and the Internet, I used typewriters and sent my stories to publishers through the mail. In all that time I sold only 1 short story, for which I was paid $5.20. I did not frame the check. I instead, invested the payment in a breakfast at I-Hop. So the only advice I'd give to any aspiring writer is this. No matter how good your writing is, don't quit your day job. On the other hand, writing has always been my means of escaping the daily frustration. It has not however, been my only means of escape. From 1969 until 1987, I spent my vacations as a world traveler. As a tourist, I visited Puerto Rico and most often Mexico. I also once visited Portugal and Spain. I was in Guadalajara, Mexico in February 1979, when the newly elected Pope John Paul II was visiting. I was also in Guatemala, in 1976 when the Country was struck with a massive earthquake. I've also been to Panama, the Dominican Republic and Caracas, Venezuela. That was the only place I disliked. The City was obliterating itself with urban renewal. In this Country, I've visited Washington D.C., Miami, Florida, and Disneyworld. I've also visited Scranton, Pennsylvania. That's where my father came from, and where some of my relatives live. often also often visit my sister, who some of you may remember as Paddy. She and my brother-in-law Joe Soito, live in the Village of Orient, just a few miles west of Orient Point, at the east end of Long Island's North Fork. I have a niece and nephew, along with three grand nieces. Both of those families live in New England. I have now reached retirement age, and am managing to get along well on Social Security and Medicare payments. There are other personal things that I just don't want to say anything about. However, the Lord has blessed me. As I said, I am a writer. I'm now writing and posting my work on-line, at various writers websites, where I am in constant contact with a good number of other writers. People are finally reading what I've written, and giving me a lot of very constructive feedback. Now, with fear and trembling, I open my own, personal Pandora's Box. If any of you are interested in reading what I've written, I have more than a dozen short stories and non fiction articles, available for anyone to read without cost, and then leave feedback at: inkitt . com / MrBillyD . My penname on that website is MrBillyD I am also a published author. I have two published novels available at amazon . com. If anyone is interested go to kindle books and check out "Angels of Death at Play" by William D'Andrea and "A Gatored Community" by William DAndrea and Andilib Marx As I said, I'm looking forward to meeting many of you again at the Reunion. Thank you. Bill D'Andrea (Mr. Harborfields. Class of '63)
