William's Story
Life
I graduated from Northeast Bradford H.S 1983. Upon which I joined the U.S. Navy with 10 yrs active duty, serving on 4 ships and shore duty in Spain and NewFoundland-Canada. After I got out of active duty, I then attended Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA where I earned my A.A.S degree in HVAC Technology. Several months after discharge from active duty, I also joined the Army Reserves, attached to the 442nd QM Co. Det 1 in Williamsport, PA. Had to keep one foot in the military. I was mobilized with the 442nd QM Co. in Jan 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We returned home Mar 2004. I got married to Melissa Uhouse (A very wonderful woman) before I deployed overseas. Our house was also started before I left, which was completed just before I returned back home.
As for the deployment...I'm glad I did it. It was an experience! I'm back working as a HVAC Technician for Williams Oil & Propane Inc. in Towanda, PA.
My wife & I were blessed with the birth of a baby boy (Joshua) on July 10, 2006. We were blessed again with the birth of our 2nd son (Benjamin) on March 24th, 2008. Two kids is what we've been wanting! What can I say except that life is good!!(smile).
College
I was considered a non-traditional student at college as I had came from 10 yrs active duty with military and not right out of H.S. So school was more of a priority th...Expand for more
an partying. Best memories came from when I worked as a bouncer at the "Shadows" nightclub while going to school. Had alot of good times during work and the after-work parties, etc..
Military
Went into the U.S. Navy right after H.S,. Spent 10 yrs active duty. I spent the first year as a deck seaman on the U.S.S. Mount Baker AE-34. I then went into the communications field as a Radioman. I served on 4 ships: USS Mt.Baker (homeported Charleston, SC), USS Whipple (homeported Pearl Harbor, HI), USS Connole (homeported Newport, RI), and USS Iwo Jima (homeported Norfolk, VA). As well as 2 shore commands: Navcommsta Rota Spain & NavFac Argentia NewFoundland. The best duty being Rota, Spain. Left the Navy as a RM2. No regrets with the time I served.
Have so many memories of the places I've been, the friends I've made through the years and all the good times & laughs we shared as well as the not so good times as anyone in the military can probably relate.
After discharge from active duty, I joined the Army Reserves several months later, attached to the 442nd QM Co. in Williamsport, PA. In Jan 03, I was mobilized with the 442nd QM Co. attached to the 4th I.D. for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Eventually ending up at Camp Speicher, Tikrit, Iraq. We returned home in Mar 04. In Jul 04 I retired from the military service with 20 1/2 years total service with the rank of Staff Sgt (E-6).
