William's Story
I've been living in Japan for 30 of the last 36 years and have had two Japanese wives. Currently I'm wearing three hats: as a teacher of business English, as a proofreader/rewriter of technical documents, and as a sometime Japanese to English translator.
Life is good--I'm happily married, live in a nice seaside resort named Kamakura, have an American shorthair cat named Mao whom my wife and I adore, enjoy my jobs mostly, and have a wide range of interests. I've been hooked on chess since the '72 Fischer-Spassky match, and even played in the 2000 U.S. Open in Las Vegas, where I lost 5 of the 6 ga...Expand for more
mes I played. Don't like to actually play now, but to play through game scores of people who really know what they're doing, i.e., grandmasters. Have become something of a nerd in my old age; used to be passionate about sports but now only enjoy watching ladies' figure skating. I read a lot (Harry Potter!)and listen to classical music and have just about everything ever recorded by the Beatles, CSNY, and Abba.
Still have all my hair, am only slightly heavier than I was in HS, and am in good health although I smoke and drink more than I should, so all in all I can't complain with my lot in life.
