William's Story

My current age is 50. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be over-the-hill. I was so completely right. I always wanted to be a marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a o.k. idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. The best way for me to totally unwind is to go to the range and bust some caps.Or go sit on rim of the Grand Canyon and daigle my feet off into to space. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a gun, radio, and a brain to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My father and my son.My father, because he was the man I always wanted to be.And my son because he had a rough life growing up,but he RANGERED-UP and made something positive from it all. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my father, because he was killed when I was seven years old and I did not get to know him well.. 3 dogs,3 cats, hiking rock-climbing,canoeing,shooting,being in nature,THESE ARE WHAT BRINGS ME PEACE OF MIND THAT NO MATTER HOW BAD A CHILDHOOD CAN BE,THAT WITH A POSITIVE MENTAL ADDITUDE AND A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR A PERSON CAN SUCCEED If I won $100 million, I'd give 50,000,000 of it to FAMILY, then spend the rest on A SMALL CABIN IN THE MOUNTAINS, A NEW JEEP and ENJOYING LIFE. To be truly happy,is to be doing what Iam doing now.And that's be a ranger at the Grand Canyon.Being married to my lovely wife, and trying to be the best father and grandfather I can be. To excell at my job,and to one day be the Head-Ranger. My first crush was a sophomore girl by the name Susan Hyde, she brok...Expand for more
e my heart, enough said.Susan, if you ever read this,no hard feeling, but you should be ashamed of yourself. My best friend would tell you I'm an outstanding person, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as an asshole. My hair is shorter or should I say balder.I still wear climbing boots, jeans, and flannel shirts I share my home with my wife, which I find to be breath-taking. My biggest victory in life with the exception of living this long would be the photo of my son on the day he graduated from army basic training If I had one do-over in life it be to have been there more often for my son. In 10 years, I hope to be a better human-being. I'm going to get there by working hard at it. My oldest friend is the late Edgar Williams from Enid,OK.We met in a bar fight in the "DRAGON CLUB" at FORT BRAGG,NC.He was an M.P.and I was a drunk son of a biscuit eater.Needless to say our friendship did'nt develope until some years later in Gainesville,Fl.You had to know Ed to understand why we clicked,He was just one hell of person to know As far as I know He never had an enemy up till an including after He passed away.ED,if you are reading this in the great DROP-ZONE in the sky,AIRBORNE,ALL-THE-WAY,BROTHER The day that Don and Alan Steele and I went rock-climbing at Garden of the Gods and did not have the key to get our equipment out of the trunk of the car.Needless to say Alan drove all the way back to Salem and back to the Garden of the Gods, leaving Don and myself there, for fear that Mr. Steele would'nt let us go back.
