k with me! I have had, as some would say, a checkered career, having passed through the so-called career of teaching in a lightening two years, then sales for 10, or so; finally, I found that little happiness would be found if I didn't become a tour guide - and not because I love bossing people around! I simply enjoy learning how New York City has become what it is through all the efforts of people bumping up against each other over these 400 years. I sometimes think of myself as a lone vessel cruising for the Northwest Passage ... and I've found so many others like me!".

Nope, prudence prevailed, and our livery driver turned around.
A lot of people were out this morning as the wind died down, and the rain really began to stop between 9:30 and 10.
This livery driver thinks he can just drive on through - at least, I thought, he picked the shallower left lane.
I'm looking north up the East River toward the lighthouse at the northern end of Roosevelt Island - and see that its connection to the island has been flooded!
It was funny to me that the dog didn't show any sign of being surprised that there was water where (I expect) he had walked many times before!
Ah hah! Water is rising!
I have descended the steps to the promenade and am walking south along the East River - some tree debris.
At the Macy's parade yesterday - in Central Park! For as many years as I've been in NYC, this was the first time I saw the parade from this hill - and it was worth the walk.
This is the sidewalk toward my building last night, at about 6:30, as I returned from seeing A Little Night Music with my son (and we were in the second row - great seats for a great show, which closes, I think, on January
Yes there is accumulation
Yes! Sledding!
Here's a great place to sled: just inside Central Park at 79th Street & 5th Avenue, Cedar Hill, today, at about 12:45. Busy all day!
I was guiding a tour in the West Village yesterday ....
Oh, I'm just having a midnight (I got to bed at 4) snack, so I thought I'd share a nightshot I took on my way home from Times Square this morning:
Walking along West Street, as the sun sets on 12/30/10 ....
Looking down Fifth Avenue last week, at the Washington Square Arch
You do remember now that Punxsatawney Phil didn't see his shadow, right? (or so they said - it seemed to me there were so many people with cameras all around him I'm surprised he saw anything more than the glare) So, spri
Well, as Punxsutawney Phil "testified," he didn't see his shadow, so we'll have an early Spring. (So, too, said - ? - Staten Island Chuck)
Finally, I made it to Elaine's - and was among the first at the bar when it opened on its last night - but "management" forced us to leave after an hour - and imposed a 20 minute limit when we left! The bartenders weren't
I went out this morning at about 9 to check on the water's height - and discovered my area not too overwhelmed. But, the water is high!
