William's Story
Hello fellow classmates--
I'm Bill Gross. Perhaps we knew each other: I went to Kailua and Kainalu Elementary schools, Kailua Intermediate, KHS for sophomore and junior years. We lived on Ulupaina St, just down from Beerman School on Oneawa, then near the canal on Kainui Dr, the last two years on Kalaheo Ave..
So here's my story:
I grew up very poor, in a log cabin in the hills of Kentucky. No, I'm sorry. That was Abe Lincoln. My bad.
Moved to Wahiawa in the late 50's, Kailua from 61 to 68, then So Cal for senior year and an AA degree. Got away from LA, asap, to Florida to work at Disney World when it opened in 71. More college, then 35 yrs as a Florida prosecuting attorney.
Along the way met a redhead (Pat) from Berkeley, soon realized she was way smarter than me, and wisely married her....Expand for more
We have three very cool offspring, and two grandchildren, so far. Pat and I are now snow birds, bouncing between Fla and Vt. In other words,I've had a great life; no complaints.
But I really miss Hawaii. The culture, people, food, weather, beauty, and that special smell that hits you as soon as you come out of the terminal at the airport.
And I miss Kailua in the 60's. Were we lucky or what? Some of the best memories of my life are from that place, and that time.
And I miss many of you, I wish I had gone to the reunion. I've seen some of the pictures, and realize missing it was a mistake. Next time for sure.
I'll be leaving Classmates soon, so if you want to reconnect, do it by September 12.
And I'll post some pix on this site, if only I can figure out how to do it....
