William's Story

Fairly quiet until comfortable with people. Loyal to friends and family, willing to help anybody. Able to bring some calm into storm. As I got older desiring to express myself through music rather than words. Wildest thing I ever did in school was as I was being taken to the office for allegedly smoking in the boys room, reaching into my pocket, taking out a smoke and lighting it as I was being brought through the quad area. Figured if I was going to pay for a crime I did not commit (bathroom smelt like smoke and nobody else in there ... quilty right!), I might as well be guilty of it first. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have time to get in early enough to relax, mentally prepare, and kill some coffee to be able to deal with the day-to-day. playing guitar, listening to music, playing with grandkids if they are around keeps me sane and out of trouble...most times Yes, my youngest brother is my hero. My inspirations come from remembering how his life has been for over 20 years now reminds me that as long as you are breathing life is good. I also get inspiratiom from the love my wife gives me, our daughters and grandchildren. I am also inspired by the wonder and excitement of the world and being alive that is in my grandchildrens eyes. Wow, I have lived so many places ... have suitcase will travel pretty much describes it. After high school lived in Oklahoma and Pheonix for a spell while going to vocational school, got a draft notice in '72, joined the Navy instead, went to Jacksonville, Fla. for a bit, came back to Imerial Beach to join a Helo outfit and spent most of the next 4 years in some of the more fun spots of South East Asia (Vietnam, Philipines, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand)floating in circles on Aircraft Carriers, seeing and doing things both scary, crazy, fun, some things to be proud of and some to try and forget. Got out of the Navy and moved to Norco, Ca were I resumed my formal education at night and started working at Long Beach Naval Shipyard during the day. Over the next 8 years or so moved closer to Long Beach slowly, spending time in Walnut, West Covi...Expand for more
na and finally settling in La Palma, Ca. In '90, I moved to Yokosuka, Japan for work related reasons and stayed there with my family until late in '99 when I accepted an early retirement to return to the USA and we moved to S.E. Georgia for a couple years of great living out in the woods until I accepted a job in New Orleans, La at a shipyard until 2005 when we experienced some nastiness and were forced to go to St Louis, Mo to stay with our eldest daughter. I got work at US Steel in Granite City, Illinois and we moved to a town of 850 people in Livingston, Il until this past Dec 2008 when the mill closed so I accepted a job here in San Diego to brings things back full circle so to speak. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Vicky Harter, because I owe her some apologies. American Idol..I admit it !! I loved being on stage and enjoyed seeing how what I was doing made people react it reminds me of that and how much I miss it. Life is what happens while making other plans. My biggest surprise is surviving it so far. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel it far away from hurricaines and add on a music studio. My dream home would be a rural area.. My children and grandchildren have re-taught me the wonder and amazement of a world and life seen from more innocent eys and hearts. I would like to see Mr. Werner again to show him that some of us did make a worth while llife after all. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my daughters, then spend the rest on a house, travel and complete retirement. I would be surrounded by friends, family and sharing life together My current age is 56. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be non-existant. I was so completely wrong. My best friend would tell you I'm ok, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a bit weird. Being a kennel boy was about the weirdest job I ever had I share my home with my wife, which I find absolutely great. If I could do it all over again, I would never have gone to New Orleans! But then I would never have met some great people who became close friends.
