William's Story
Life
I attended college in Milwaukee WI (Electrical Engineering), Interned at IBM in upstate NY, Graduated in 73 with a BSEE. Hired on at IBM in Kingston NY working on HF SMPS's (high frequency switched mode power supplies), married (Bonnie Jean Anders of Oshkosh WI) in 74. My hobbies are sailing, skiing,and motorcycling. We had our first son in 77, temporary assignment in Boulder CO, transferred to Tucson AZ...our second son, and third son. Transferred to Woodstock NY, then Lexington KY, then Endicott NY, assignment again in Lexington KY, and finally moved to Raliegh NC in 96. Currently I am a Senior Engineering Manager of the Power Electronics group at IBM's Raliegh site. I own and sail a Catalina 34 foot sloop "Solitude" in Pamlico sound and beyond including trips to NYC, Bermuda, Bahamas, and the Carribean in my boat and crewing on friends boats(unfortunately none of our wives will put up with 5-10 days at sea and prefer to miss the fun and fly to meet us on the long trips). After 10 years w/o a motorcycle I got back into it with a Yamaha 1100 Vstar last year, and now a new Roadstar 1700 and love it... Big heavy cruisers (low and slow) but lots of fun! grad)is a commisioned officer in the Navy (as of April 2004) and is currently in Nuc school awaiting submarine duty after graduation next year, and the third is still in college. My wife works at the Wake County Library and we enjoy some travel (mostly US, and have done 4 great cruises...ships not sailboats). We have three cats (too many), one dog... and now are empty nesters with too large a house... not sure whats next ... Next was / is another transfer with IBM to the Systems Storage Group in Tucson AZ in 2005 and am now managing a dept a split group half in Tucson and half in San Jose CA. I greatly miss the sailboat but not the 8 hurricanes experienced on coastal NC while there. Two sons in CA now (one at Intel-Folsom, and another at the Navy Numerical Research center in Montery CA, and one still back in Raleigh NC.
NEW NEWS... Retired from IBM after almost 38yrs, my last of 3 sons got married in Raleigh NC in 2011. I recently unretired (11months retired) and am back at IBM Tucson as a contractor consultant working as a Power Design Engineer. Will probably do that for a couple of years if it works out. Now have a 2nd motorcycle (a 2004 BMW K1200GT) because one MC is not enough! And a brand new grandson named Ryan born on May 5th in Sacramento,CA!
