William's Story
Our family moved to Dearborn Avenue, just West of w.73rd. in 1962.
I remember Home Room 214 at TJ but the teacher changed a few times while I was there. Mr.Shushinsky, The Science Teacher, was my favorite.
At West Tech I was in Home Room 243 with Mr. Zylowsky. This was one of the Cabinet Making Class Rooms, so there was always something interesting going on in there. I was one of the Projectionists that ran the Noon Lunch Movies in the Auditorium. The big perk was that I could spend all my study halls in the Projection Room and I had a "Permanent Hall Pass" for all 9 periods. "Mousey" could never figure out if I was coming or going. (Ha)
After Tech, I spent a Year and a Half working at Lutheran Hospital as an X-Ray Transport, Pushing Patients around. I was able to see most everything that happens in a Hospital and a lot of things I never want to see again but I didn't have to deal with the messes like the orderlies did.
The fall of 1971 saw me in the AirForce. I was trained as an Air Traffic Controller but found I was more interested in the Radar equipment than telling the Pilots we...Expand for more
re to go. While still in the service I took a course in Electronics Technology and obtained an Associate's degree.
After the AirForce, I worked in various electronics positions testing and repairing Alarm Systems, Medical MRI and CAT Scanners, and Crystal Vacuum Plating Systems. I have been to more than Half of the 50 United States, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Red China, Germany, and Greece.
I have lived in North Ridgeville since 2000 and worked for "The Network" side of Verizon Wireless maintaining the Transmitters at the Cell Phone Towers in Lorain and parts of the surrounding Counties.
Since 2014 I have been enjoying retirement. I am in the process of completing one of my bucket list items by building an airplane in my garage. It is more work than I anticipated but I am savoring every minute of it.
I enjoy Scuba diving and have been all over the Caribbean. My To-Do list includes a visit to the Arctic Circle in Alaska and I still need to cross the Equator. ... Some Day!
