Bill's Story

My Life I work hard when I am out running through the shadows of the night protecting the sheep from the predatory wolves, who would otherwise feed upon them at will. There were no wars to fight when I turned 18, so I went to college, swore an oath, took a badge and fought the battles on our streets for the past 26 years. I raised 2 excellent sons who both went into the US Marine Corps. They have both safely returned from their respective tours of duty and I am very proud of their service. To know me know, you must understand that I have become a warrior who will fight for the life and liberty of all free people, although I am told that I am a romantic with a heart who loves as passionately as he fights to protect others. I have a huge heart for people, especially those who cannot defend themselves. My warrior friends call me Mustang due to my high-performance, hardy, free-roaming spirit that I picked up by being raised in the old west states. They also know that I am a Rebel in my chosen career, because I hate being part of a mold. I believe in exercising the intelligence God gave me and I do not blindly follow others. I believe that "one must strive to balance justice with compassion." Those whom I have had a privilege to teach know that I apply what I teach. I have studied and practiced Bushido, "The Way of the Warrior," since first learning its concepts at LCCC in 1980 when I started studying Judo. Bushido is a Japanese code of conduct and a way of life, loosely analogous to the European concept of chivalry. I find that it goes well with my pioneer Mustang spirit of the old West, which contributes to the diversity of culture and enriches the lives of the people I meet. My 7 1/2 year old grandson is still my North Star! After two prior divorces, he is what I use to maintain focus of direction when I find myself caught out in the emotional dark wilderness, unable to see my Paradise. Everyone must have a North Star to navigate by when they get caught in the dark wilderness; otherwise they stay lost and are never able to return to their Paradise. Paradise is my loving faithful mate who I share the joys of life with, like a warm fire that glows bright as you emerge from the darkness to enjoy and know all is well with life. I did find my true Paradise, my one and only forever and always last kiss in July 2007. After a brief isolated time apart we both come to the same conclusion that life partners cannot be separated or live life without the other. We are living and loving life together and are mutually blessed. I strive to see the good in people and the positive in each situation. I am getting in touch with the Native American in me and have begun a Journey to find my true inner happiness. I have a very strong faith in God, the Salvation of Jesus Christ and His infilling of the Holy Spirit. I do not think that the Christian belief and the Native American beliefs clash, so if you think that makes me a heathen, then go join your brethren who dwell among the forces of darkness. I know that I'd be dead without His Love, Power and Heavenly Angels (Spirit Guides). I have experienced things that most people would never fathom in their worst nightmares. That is why I really enjoy quiet solitude where I can take walks on the beach or a hike through the mountains. I most enjoy a beautiful sunset in the west while a full moon rises in the east. I am forever humbled at God's blessings upon me and the world we live in. I love life and know how blessed I am. School Biggest Teacher that inspired me was Dan Finnerty that I had in my Senior Year for Psychology. Funny teacher, really connected with the students, treated us like adults, delivered the information in an understanding way, most of all ALL THOSE DONUT RUNS HE HAD ME MAKE FOR THE CLASS! He truly cared about our health and emotional well being. College Life at LCCC was hectic! I worked 60+ hours a week on top of taking 16 to 18 semester hours. I graduated with an AA degree in Criminal Justice. My first son was born at the end of my two years of community college, just before I started my Law Enforcement Career. More than 22 years later I returned to school. I enrolled in Mountain State University's online bachelor's program in Administration of Criminal Justice Management. Mercy, what a lot of writing and reading that was for 16 straight months! uary 11, 1982 and as a criminal justice trainer since 1985. I am currently employed by the Lane County Sheriff's Office and have held many specialty assignments including Training Coordinator. I currently work Swing Shift Patrol. I have particularly enjoyed being a Multi-Cultural Liaison for the Lane County Sheriff's Office and have served as the Sheriff's Office Diversity Committee Vice-Chair in 2002 & 2003. I also have two private businesses which I do consulting work for attorneys in the area of Collision Reconstruction and Police Use of Force. After obtaining an Associates of Arts and Science degree in Criminal Justice from Laramie County Community College I went on to complete the Administration of Criminal Justice bachelor's program through Mountain State University. I've also continued my education with a Criminal Justice Management Course at Lane Community College and accumulated more than 3,900 hours of specialized training. It has been my honored privilege to instruct in excess of 2,750 hours of certified police training to other officers. Work accomplishments include being published in the Cambridge Who's Who for Executives as well as the Who's Who of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers. Additional accomplishments include instructing courses for the Oregon Department Public Safety Standards and Training, the Eugene Regional Police Academy, the Lane Community College's Law Enforcement Reserve Academy and the Umpqua Community College's Reserve Police Academy. My areas of expertise include: Field Training and Evaluation Program, Diversity, Ethics, Use of Force, Baton Tactics, Defense Tactics and Officer Survival Skills, Crash Investigations, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Police Performance Vehicle Operation, SkidCar, Pursuit Intervention, Traffic Enforcement, RADAR Operation, LIDAR Operation; which I either created the curriculums for, or helped create the curriculums for. I was privileged to be certified through the Association of Law Enforcement Emergency Response Trainers International Class 1 in 1997 and was a Senior Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training from July 1998 through June 2002. The most awesome responsibility I've ever had was to coordinate and teach the two day Police Performance Vehicle Operations Course at Portland International Raceway for 10 years. It was a tough job, but someone had to teach the police officers how to safely drive those Mustangs and Camaros at prolonged high speed with concentrated driving skill! I still enjoy memberships with the Forensic Accident Reconstructionists of Oregon (FARO), National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists and International Network of Crash Reconstructionists. I¿ve been investigating motor vehicle crashes for 26 years and am accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction. I've been an active board member of FARO from July 1997 to July 2005. I've had the honor of facilitating four training conferences for FARO and have served as their editor of The Oregon Reconstructionist. One of my more memorable accomplishments was being Faro's representative at the World Reconstruction Exposition 2000 at Texas A&M where I coordinated the videography team for all of the crash testing. I also enjoyed serving on the Oregon Department of Public Safety and Standards and Training¿s curriculum committee for basic and advanced traffic investigation courses. The humble part of my career has been to receive several awards for Life Saving, Meritorious Service, Sheriff Unit Citations, Training Excellence, Exceptional Dedication and Service, and Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Three Flags International Safety Belt Project. All this just really means is that I was a person who could never say no and worked WAY TOO MUCH. I am now learning to relax and enjoy life! When I left Wyoming in 1987 I sold the four things that brought me peace and tranquility: my horse, my motorcycle, my boat, my 4x4. Last year I realized that I had never restored those things in my life. I have since moved out to the country with my Life Partner and have restored those 4 things. I have been spending much more time relaxing and enjoying with my Life Partner. So, I apologize to those old friends I have lost touch with over the past years due to the time consumed between balancing relaxation and work. Please do keep in touch. bill
