William's Story
Life
After attending Aurora University I moved to downtown Chicago and began studying fashion design. This opened up a world of creative opportunities for me. I eventually moved to New York to explore further options and eventually began classes studying New Media Design at Parson's NewSchool near NYU. I currently work as Associate Creative Director for an interactive design and marketing agency in Manhattan's Chelsea area. I have an apartment with a great view overlooking the Times Square. My "daughter" is a little black frenchie named "Gnocchi".
School
Hmmm. My biggest crush. I suppose a cross between Lynnette Simonson and the guy she was dating senior year. They were both pretty hot. Haha.
Workplace
After Aurora College I moved to Chicago. Once there I decided I wanted to study fashion. So in order to pay rent while still maintaining a flexible schedule I became a waiter for a really high-end Italian restaurant off Michigan Ave. Having experience at such a well respected place allowed me to work at really good restaurants all through my 20s as I studied fashion and explored freelance design. My first few years in New York included a couple restaurant jobs. My favorite celebrity clients would have to be...Expand for more
Kelly Rippa (back when she first started on AMC) or Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danza (The nicest couple I've ever met).
After 3 years waiting tables New York and exploring the city like a big kid ... I decided it was time to get my creative career back on track. Fashion became way too competitive and costly to realize as a feasible option, so I decided to study new media design which was just becoming a big thing at the time (1998-ish). My second interview out of school was with a company of only 4 people working in a one room studio loft space. We designed websites and logos for local businesses. Today, 8 years later, we have 50 employees in a 2 floor office in Chelsea. Its been an amazing experience. I now get to work with companies like American Express and Giorgio Armani in helping them to come up with marketing concepts for new media. It is still a relatively "new" way of marketing for most companies, so part of the challenge is preparing them for the future and dispelling thier fear of change. Its great to see that technology is shifting the power from the hands of big corporations to that of the everyday consumer. Real people have more say than ever. Madison Avenue is being forced to change because of it.
