So you want to know what's been going on in my life. Well, where do I start? Has it actually been 45 years. And your expecting me to remember. Well to begin with I have to confess something. What most of you may not know is that I didn't get to walk down the aisle of knowledge at our graduation ceremony. I failed English and had to go to summer school in order to get my deploma. Throughout my PRHS days and for almost two years following them, I worked at Majors Department Store located on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor. I am sure you alll remember it. While there I did take a few classes (if I recall correctly it ended up to be for 9 credits) at Staten Island Community College. But I didn't stay with it. Anyway, knowing that my days of avoiding the draft were getting fewer and fewer, I went down to the Air Force recruiter located down in St George next to the ferry in mid to late 1966 to enlist. However, because I was attempting to get into a specific specialty I had to wait until there was a vacancy available before I could actually take the oath and ship out to boot camp. Then in January of 67 I received my draft notice. So I quickly ran down to the recruiter again and asked him what he could do for me. While he couldn't get me into the specialty that I wanted, he did get me in the Air Force, where I spent the next 3 years, 9 months and 26 days. I was in the intellegence gathering business (some might call it spy work). Not actual 007 type of spy work, but very sensitive stuff which I can't go into detail about. It was hard but very interesting work, and nothing I ever thought I would be doing. But I truely did enjoy my military active duty time. The Air Force iterally took me around the world. Europe, Africa, the middle east, asia minor, the far east. Loved every second of it. I actually thought about stayin in and makeing the military a career. Why didn't I? I am not sure why. Guess I just wanted to grow my hair long. Which I did for a couple of years, but then I joined the Air National Guard and had to cut it short again. I served in both the New Jersey and Washington DC Air Guard and completed my 20 years of service. Getting bact, after I got out of my military active duty I layed back and collected unemployment benefits for about 6 months. Then somehow, and I don't recall exactly how or why, I applied for and attained a position with the Bureau of Narcotic and Dangerous Drugs in June of 72. This agency of the U.S. Department of Justice was later changed to and is currently known as the Drug Enforcement Administration. I worked in the New York Regional Office of DEA. I started out as a base radio operator, and worked my way into the position of Regional Security Officer. Then in late 1983 I notiified that my position was being abolished and made a collateral duty for a Special Agent due to a reduction in force (RIF). This was back in the days when President Reagan was attempting to make Government smaller. So, as a result of the RIF, I ended up being transfered t...Expand for more
o the DEA Headquarters in Washington DC. and was in the position of a Facilities Management Specialist. I did that for about five years. Then, and because I felt I was in a better career path by being in the security line of work, I left DEA for a position as a Security Specialist with the U.S. Marshals Service Headquarters. I finished out my goverment career with the USMS by retireing in January of 2003, as a Senior Security Specialist and Chief of the Judicial Security Systems Division. I had a very successful and honored career and received numerous commendations and kudos, from three Presidents (Ford, and both HW and W Bush), and three Attorney Generals and all the Federal District Judges to who I was responsible for providing protection to and security for. Since my retirement, I worked various jobs. For the first three years I was employed by Costco Wholesale as a Loss Prevention Agent. Then because I wanted to have my evenings and weekends off (which you can't have in the retail/wholesale business), I left Costco and took a position as an Assistant Social Studies teacher (4th and 6rh grades) and bus driver for a very exclusive Private School (pre school through 8th grade)close to where I live. I loved that job and would have stayed there for however long they would have allowed me to. That, however, only lasted about two years because I had a falling out with the Head Master/ Director of the school. I don't know why, but I guess he didn't like my New York attitude. He claims I scared the kids and him. Hogwash! I say. I loved working with the kids and they appeared, or at least I thought so, to like me. So having nothing to do I then I attained a Privated Investigators license, and started my own PI business. Did very well at it until the economy went bad. I am still doing it but I don't really try to seek out clients like I did when I was going hot and heavy, and now only take on clients when I have the urge to work or as a big favor. So what did I leave out? Only the four proudest days of my life.so far. The day my wife Margaret "Peggy" married me. The births of my two daughters Melissa "Missy" and Christina "Tina", And finally giving away Missy'at her wedding this past November. Still looking forward to Tina's wedding... Lord only knows when that will be... and a bunch of grand children. I'll settle for just one but hope there are a lot more. I curently live in Oak Hill, Virginia which is located about 35 miles west of Washington DC and right next to Dulles International Airport. For those that know Northern Virginia but aren't formilar with Oak Hill, it is located between Herndon and Chantilly. I make note of this only because Oak Hill is a fairly new official area designation, and was originally considered part of Herndon or rather had Herndon Post Office address. Still it had been know by the old timers as Oak Hill area of Herndon. But because of the growth that happen out this way they opened the New Oak Hill Post Office. And so tra dah! An official Oak Hill designation. Many maps today still don't show Oak Hill. That about sums it up, I think. I look forward to hearing from all my PRHS almuni, be it if they went prior to, or following my 1965 class. Go Minstrels! Errr... I mean, Go Red Riders! What the heck is a Red Rider? Then again, why were we nick named Minstrels. Isn't some kind of midieval band or singing group? Guess our founders were big singers. I am ok with that. I like to sing. I am actually in my church choir. And often break out in song while I am in the shower. But, Red Rider??? Someone explain, please??? Thank you!
