William's Story
Life
William Joseph Mondy Jr.
A proactive, results orientated Aeronautical Engineer, with over 32 years experience in Aircraft Maintenance, Maintenance Planning and Quality Assurance.
Starting out in 1968 with an Aviation Merit Badge from the Valley Forge Council with the Boy Scouts of America, BillÂs early passion for flying machines took him on to Atlantic Aviation (Philadelphia) where he was to become a Âvolunteer mechanic at age 14!
Enlisted in the USAF in 1972, Bill served in the Strategic Air Command as Maintenance Specialist on C-131Âs and DC-130Âs during the Vietnam Era, tours of duty in Southeast Asia including a successful campaign with Air America.
Moving back to Civilian life, Bill was hired as a Cargo Station Load Agent with Summit Airlines (again in Philadelphia) during the late-1970Âs, whilst continuing his education. Bill Graduated at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in April 1981.
As a qualified Technician working with a top-secret security clearance, Bill then branched into the Aerospace world for a period with an assignment at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), as a member of the McDonnell Douglas Technical Services Company. (processing satellites and payloads for the commercial and military sectors).
With the exception of a QA Inspection role with Morton Thiokol and Rocketdyne (again at KSC) Bill entered into the field of Commercial aviation finding himself as a Ground Engineer and Flight Mechanic on DC-8Âs and B747Âs giving engineering support to Capital, Transamerica, National, Orion and Rosenbalm Airlines during the 80Âs. The status quo continued with Flagship Express and eventually Southern Air TransportÂs mission effort (maintaining direct engineering support on DC8-71Âs during (ÂOperation Desert StormÂ).
As part of a considered career advancement, Bill joined the staff of American International Airways (Detroit) as a Technical Writer in 1993 (with emphasis on Maintenance Planning). As part of a high profile team, Bill was to be a key member of the team that introduced the L-1011 Freight-Star program into the US. Currently residing in the United States, Bill returned to his beloved ground engineering duties in Liege, Belgium during spring and summer 2004 as Lead Station Engineer and Flight Mechanic on Boeing 747Âs. Actively on charge with Sage-Popovich a worldwide respected aeronautical appraisal firm. In addition has recently joined the ranks of Southwest Aviation Consultants. Bill is also writing a book about World War II Italian Fighter Ace Adriano Visconti.
Bill is an FAA certified AP Mechanic, Ground Engineer, Production / Maintenance Planning Engineer and has vast experience of most derivatives of Douglas, Boeing, Lockheed, DeHavilland, ATR, Embraer, BAE, Pilatus and Bombardier Aircraft.
