William's Story

Life My Spouse Through a Christmas card while I was in Europe and she was in college in Pennsylvania. Rotated home in Jan of '89, bought a '79 Camaro and drove from CA to PA in 48 hours. Got married two weeks later, moved her to TN then left for school for 4 weeks. In our first 3 years of marriage we were actually together about 5 months. Amazed she waited. My Pets Two Greyhounds - Morgan is 9 years old and raced 7 times before finding out that people and birds are more fun than chasing fake rabbits. She is our goofy-grey. Thinks she is a Lab in a Greyhound suit. She loves to find the deepest water around, and drag me in at full speed. Mia is around 14, and is a Spanish Greyhound (Galga) who was trained to hunt fox and rabbit. Many times she has sat on her tail, then sprung over one of us to sit on the couch all while exerting little effort. She was abused in Spain and still does not take well to most men. She is very protective of Jon and Hope though, and will stick by Jon's side all day. She also has taken on the role of guard dog for Hope, and watches everything that goes on anywhere near her. Both she and Morgan are quite the couch potatos too. One Cat named Princess. Rescued her from inside the roof of an abandoned building in the town we use to live in. She is a robust 15 lbs. and is totally psycho! She rules the house, and both Greys will literally bow down to her when she walks by. She is pure attitude with them! My Kids Jenna (17) is a surviving twin. Her brother Ryan died at birth. Jenna is a very interesting kid, with some things that require extra patience dealing with. But we would not trade a moment we have had with her. She has been working in the Food Service area at a local Assisted Living Facility since August of 2008 and recently was promoted to shift supervior. Not bad for a kid that was supposed to be institutionalized at 18. Her jewelry making business is thriving and she has decided to enter the nursing profession so she can continue to work with the elderly. She is still homeschooled and, while having enough credits to graduate in January of 2010 has decided to finish out the regular school year. She is currently dating a very fine young man who works on a local dairy farm. They make quite the couple, and fortunately for him he has a very clear and worthy fear of me. Jessica (16) is our first adopted child. She spent over 7 years in the Foster Care system here. She has been living with us since 2004 and we finalized the adoption in May of 2005. Jess has some delays which we are working through. She is slowly, despite her own best efforts, lear...Expand for more
ning that not all parents are abusive, evil and out to get her. Jonathan (12) is 100% boy. He is currently 5'9" and 125 lbs and has not yet actually hit the growth period. he keeps saying he cant wait to look down on Dad. He made the decision this past year to be homeschooled and found that, despite what he had planned, Dad was pretty tough with the school work. He continued to work well above grade level and this year he is applying with Johns-Hopkins University for their Advanced Placement program. His life goals have have changed as he wants to become a Doctor (Hopkins grad he hopes) and play College Lacrosse. He dropped playing Rugby this summer to concentrate on Lacrosse and will play Basketball in the Winter and Lacrosse again in the spring. Hope (3) is our second adopted child. She was born premature, at 29 weeks, and despite the odds has thrived. She came home on August 25th, and on February 15, 2007 we finalized the adoption. She has been diagnosed with mild CP, as well as some other developmental delays and receives weekly therapy for them. But she is a fighter and has exceeded all expectations that the Doctors had placed on her. My Job I am a Corrections Sergeant for the PA DOC and am currently out on a leave of absence to work as the Statewide Grievance Coordinator for the Union that represents Corrections Officers, Maintenance and Culinary that work inside Pennsylvania State Correctional Facilities. I have been a CO since 1996 and have been doing this job since 2002. I love every aspect of working for the Union as it allows me to do the two things I love best: Be loud and be right. School If I had it to do over again.....I would only change one thing: I would actually open a book once in awhile. Having to learn everything as an adult simply is not the way to do it. Ah, the luxury of hindsight. Military Served 5 years, 9 months and 22 days in the U.S. Army. I loved almost every minute I was in, and if not for the death of my oldest I'd still be in. The military made me grow up, thankfully. I was lucky enough to serve with two units whose history is rich in tradition, and I still hold a degree of pride in having served with them. I served with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (now 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment) during the final years of the Cold War in what was then West Germany. We patrolled the East German and Czech borders. Also served with the 101st Airborne Division during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Made some good friends during my time in, had some great times and some not so great times. Never would trade it for anything else though.
