William's Story
Life
Then photo was 1967 now photo taken in Garmisch Germany 2007. I'm married to Jacqueline, my English Rose, for 53’years. We have three children, Michelle, Warren and Spencer. Michelle has three children, Warren has four and Spencer has twins, one boy and one girl. Recent additions, Charlotte and Lewis our GREATGrand children. I spent 26 years with the Air Force, 17 of them in Europe. I retired at Scott AFB Il in 1992 and tried the world of entrepenuership and found it lacking. I started with civil service in 1992. and retired in 2011. We now live in Ocean Shores Washington, 100+ miles southwest of Seattle on the coast. I don't get back to Memphis much as most of my family have moved to the four corners of the US. Looking for an opportunity to return to Memphis and look up old friends.
College
My college experience was all done off duty (after work). While I graduated from SIUC, I started with Univ of Maryland in Holland in 1977. I utilized the off campuses of City Colleges of Chicago, Community College of the Air Force and several others that shall remain nameless at the moment. I attended classes in Holland, Turkey, England and Scott AFB in Illinois. It took ten years and a lot of patience...Expand for more
on my family's part, but I did manage to graduate. It was well worth the effort as I'm sure I've progressed a lot further in government service because I have a degree.
Military
Started off in Germany in Feb 66 with a chip on my shoulder. In Feb 67 moved on to Turkey carrying my chip along with me, with no intention of doing more than my four years in the Air Force. Met my first good supervisor who had no problem with knocking the chip off my shoulder. Sept 68 found me in England where I really started enjoying my career and life in general. Met and married my wife, brought two children into the world. Moved to Keesler AFB in Feb 73, had our third child and left in May of 1974 for Germany. Nice tour, but I had to do too much camping in the snow. Moved on to Holland in May 1977 where we had a great time, one of my best tours. In August 1981 I moved the family to England and went to Turkey for a year. Luckily I was assigned back to England in August 1982, just 7 miles from where I had left my family. Did three years in England and returned to the good ole U S of A in Sept 1985. I've been working at Scott AFB Illinois ever since. I retired in March 1992 after 26 wonderful years with the Air Force.
