William's Story
Life
After graduating from North Georgia College, The Military College of Georgia, I entered active duty with the Navy, spending the next four years seeing the world. I spent the first two years stationed in Portugal serving on a NATO staff, and the next two as the navigator aboard the USS Connole (FF-1056), homeported in Norfolk, VA. Aboard the Connole I participated primarily in anti-submarine operations and training in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean, After release from active duty, I remained in the Naval Reserve, seeing additional overseas duty in UK and Egypt. I retired from the Naval Reserve as a Commander (O-5). I used the GI Bill to go to graduate business school at Georgia State University.
As my civilian job, I was a Special Agent with the US Treasury Department. I investigated tax fraud, import/export fraud, violations of international sanctions, money laundering and other financial crimes in addition to the investigation of a wide range of other criminal activity, including international drug and weapons smuggling. I retired from the Treasury as a supervisory criminal investigator in 2002, but it was short-lived. After an ei...Expand for more
ght-week break, I returned to government service with US Homeland Security as part of the response to the events of 9/11. I spent the next two years as a law enforcement specialist with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, teaching interviewing and interrogation, ethics, trial presentation, and other law enforcement subjects to agent trainees from over eighty federal agencies. In 2004 we moved to Carrollton Georgia, where I am a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Public Accountant. After moving to Carrollton, I did investigative work part time under contract for the US government and conducted training in west Africa on behalf of the US State Department. From 2010 to 2018 I was on the faculty of the Richards College of Business at the University of West Georgia teaching financial accounting and a course in fraud examination. Now I am completely retired, involved in hobbies, social and veterans organizations, and family.
In 1973 I married my senior-year college girlfriend, Diane Baggett of Douglasville, GA. We have two adult children: a daughter April, and a son Travis, and four grandchildren (including a set of twins). I am on Facebook.
