William's Story

Life I have been very busy after graduating from DHS. I went to Morris Tech Inst. for Electrical Engineering and started my own business when I was 21. I am the president and CEO of Wagner Industries Inc. in Stanhope, NJ. We design and build computer controlled machines that have been used in both aerospace and medical manufacturing. In my spare time I build streetrods and at present have 22 old cars including 2 Lamborghini's and my favorite chopped 1949 Merc. I call it "Earth Angel". This car brought back all the memories of "cruisin with my girl" in Dover in the early 60's. What I would give to do that all over again. I still enjoy most of what I did when I was a teenager including playing the guitar, doing science projects, earthquake prediction, astronomy and On weekends, I take long drives in one of my old cars up in the Sussex County countryside. In the mid 1990's I learned how to fly an am a VFR pilot. I have thought about retirement but I'd be bored stiff. I have to be doing something. I still live in Hopatcong Hills with my beautiful wife Carol for the past 47 years. When we got married, I told her she would never be bored. I've kept that promise many times over!! One of my hobbies is to sponsor the annual Hopatcong Days Soap Box Derby and Car Show. This event has become the biggest weekend event for each year with over 2000 people attending the last one this past July. My company has built 28 of the full size cars for the kids to drive. My family and I have been doing this for the past 15 yea...Expand for more
rs and we feel it is a great way to help our town and give something back in the way of community appreciation. I have 4 wonderful children, Billy Jr., Susie, Darren and Michael (twins) and 4 beautiful grandkids. Many times I thought about moving out of NJ but somehow I never could bring myself to leaving all the memories and good times I had here. All the people that I care for are here. I have been very lucky to have the life I have and I thank God for my family, friends and memories. I'd love to hear from the people from my past. Please send me a note or just to say "Hi". Starting in 2014, my family and I started doing the Hopatcong Christmas Spectacular in the center of town at Modick Park, It was a wonderful feeling seeing over 3000 people and 586 children visit Santa and his 10 elves in Santa's workshop over the 2nd and 3rd weekends in December. The town has given us permission to do an even larger light show and musical event as Santa flies in on from the sky in his sleigh. This is an event that I have loved doing and hope to make it bigger each year. It's not just for kids, but adults as well. Hope you can come this year. It's all free and lots of fun! This Covid pandemic thing has really put a lot of my friends into hiding. Just to get in my business, we have to take your temp and you must wear a mask. It is now almost Christmas 2020 as I write this and a possible cure is being distributed for certain people. I pray this will get the world back to some sort of normalcy. Have faith.... Be well Bill
