William's Story
Time for an update:
Still working as a civil servent with SPAWAR (DON). Can't believe at 55 I'm still climing up a ship's mast to make sure contractors are doing thier jobs. Currently acting as waterfront manager for new construction ship's communications systems (basically the whipping boy when installations go bad). Your tax dollars at work. Trying to finish some training with my current position that's required for program manger. Once done I can hopefully add another 6k a year for tuition assistance and possibly finally finish getting my masters degree.
So far have 9 grand kids two of which I get to see almost every day. My 3 year old grandson keeps trying to help my son and I work on the house. Renovating and remodleing is so much fun to do while trying to live in the house (not...it takes twice as long, cost more and gets my pants in a bunch because of disorganization). It also take for ever with 12hour work days getting in te way (imagine the gall of those who pay me expecting me to actually work for the money...sheesh).
Life
After 20 years in the Navy I retired as a Chief and settled in Norfolk, Virginia. I worked at NASA Langely Research Center for 5 years as an Audio/Video Engineer and currently work for SPAWAR (Na...Expand for more
vy) as Test Site Director/Project Engineer. With the schools I've attended I am certified as a Computer Network Analyst, Computer Forensic Investigator, AS in applied science for computer technology, and a BA in information technology. Hopefully will eventually get my Masters.
My latest bike (since '94) is a Honda Goldwing in which my wife and I ride every weekend (weather permiting) with our bike club on nice curvey back roads, stop at small resturants for lunch and then back home (if it normally takes 1hr to get to it takes us 4hrs). We have been known to take off and go from VA to upper New York State to visit my niece and then on to Ontario for lunch (yea it's a long ride for lunch, but fun).
I travel some with my job to San Diego, Washington, DC, Main, Mississippi, Florida, Hawaii, Japan, Italy, Texas, and other places (super jet lag when you travel to Hawaii, back to Virginia for a day, then to Italy).
Can't wait to win the lottery. Although the Q&A says I would retire, I only picked it because I really don't know what I would do (probably have a heart attack).
For those who remember what I look like, beauty has finally shown itself (baldness). Just remember "God only made so many perfect heads and the rest he covered with hair".
