William's Story
I joined the Army in Oct 78. I went to Benning for Basic and Airborne School. I was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC with the 82nd Abn. I went to Special Forces Qualification Course in 1981. I spent the next 22 years with 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, Fort Davis, Panama, Roosevelt-Roads Naval Station, Puerto Rico, and Fort Polk, LA. I spent most of my career overseas in Central and South America. I am fluent in Spanish and have visited every Central American country and all but Brazil in South America. n 99 and my dad a year later. In 2003 I retired from the military but stayed on as a Department of the Army Civilian working as a Force Protection Officer / Antiterrorism Officer for Fort Polk. I volunteered for service in Afghanistan and work as a personnel recovery specialist and mentor to the Afghan National Command Center. I guess I missed being part of something bigger than me and doing something that affects or could affect others in a positive way. I have a 25 acre horse ranch in Louisiana that is going to fallow right now but not sure when I'm going back. I really enjoy the work I do here and gives me a great deal of job satisfaction. Might be hard to give it up. That's about it.
