William's Story
Life
After leaving Rochester I entered the Marine Corps for 4 years of active duty. I was a regimental sniper with the 26th Marines in Vietnam and I received a purple heart for wounds suffered in combat and several other medals of valor. I attended the University of Maryland graduating with highest honors in 1972. I was a graduate assistant at Maryland 1972 - 1973 and recived my Masters in Physiology in 1973. I was not thrilled with the idae of "publish or perish" so I made the radical shift from physiologist to law enforcement and joined the Prince Georges County Maryland Police Department. In 1996 I joined the US Departmant of State as a Diplomatic Security Agent/Officer. I was responsible for the security of Secretaries Kissinger, Vance and Muskie and traveled the world with them. In early 1981 I was posted to El Salva...Expand for more
dor as the Regional Security Officer RSO)responsible for all US Embassy security programs. In December 1982 I moved to Panama as RSO. In 1984 I resigned from State and became a security consultant for a private group in El Salvador. I rejoined the US Government in 1989 as a USAID Foreign Service Officer. Since then I have been posted to Uganda, 1994 -1995, Ecuador, and Colombia 1995 - 2000, Lima Peru 2000 - 2004 and presently Guatemala. I have two daughters, Kristin 33 and Courtney 31, two step children Victor 24 and Michelle 27 and three grandchildren, Ryan 3, Kaitlin 2 and Andrew William 4 months. My wife, Marlene, is Salvadoran, we married in 1990. After 24 years abroad I doubt I will return to the US to retire and will most likely come to rest in El Salvador where I lived for 13 years a place that I still call home.
