Willa's Story
Dear 1967 classmates and other THS friends:
Since so many of the class of '67 have now signed on to this website, I thought it was time that I did so as well. (Probably turning 60 and nostalgia that seems to increase with age influenced my decision as well.)
As you see, I have undergone a dramatic change (several years ago, in fact). I have never been happier. My wife (a psychologist) and I will be married 37 years in February. We have one son, Nelson, 23 years old, in graduate school at West Virginia University. We have been living in an East Harlem, Manhattan brownstone for 25+ years.
After Tillamook High, I spent a year at OSU then moved to Long Island, New York to a college for naval architecture and marine engineering. On graduation, I worked for Esso Int'l Corp for several years before attending law school here. I joined a maritime law firm in 1977 and practiced there until it was dissolved in September 2006, since when I have been self-employed as a maritime technical, litigation and legal consultant. (Not a good time to be on...Expand for more
one's own!)
I began writing poetry in about 1982 and have been working at it ever since. There has not been much published, but a novel in verse came out in 2007, "Incunabulum," available on Barnes & Noble and Amazon where two reviews are posted. It is certainly not for everyone--it is either liked or disliked and nothing in between.
I did enjoy seeing photos from the 2007 reunion that were posted on this site, and if there is a 2012 reunion, I will try to make it. I have not visited Tillamook in many years. My parents died long ago after leaving Tillamook; my brother, Steven, whom some of you may recall, is married and lives in Sacramento. My sister Kristi returned many years ago to our birth place in north west Wisconsin where she married and has three daughters in their early to late 20's.
My e-mail is poetadmiralatearthlinkdotnet where anyone may contact me directly. As this site seems not to allow direct contact, just make the obvious substitutions.
I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year and decade.
Best,
Willa
