William's Story
After graduation I spent four years at Southwestern State College (now SWOSU) where I completed a BS in chemistry. At SWSC I met Sherry Chappell from Duncan and we were married in Dec. 1972, shortly after I had started grad school at North Texas State University (now UNT) in Denton. I graduated with a MS in chemistry focusing on the magnetic properties of copper compounds in 1975. In March 1975 we had our son Mark. In 1980 our daughter, Sarah, was born. I began work in October 1975 at Alcon Laboratories doing chemical analyses on pharmaceuticals, mainly eye medications, and developing new analytical methods for new products. I have now been there for 37 years,reaching a position of Assistant Director. My current plan is to retire around mid-year (2013).
Beginning in 2010 I became involved in Tai Chi for Health programs and am certified to teach several of the programs. Part of my retirement plans is to teach several classes a week as a volunteer at seniors centers or care facilities.
