William's Story
Life
Born and raised in Topeka, KS. Attended State Street, Gage, and Crestview grade schools. Capper Jr High and THS/TWHS; graduated in the first class(62) as Senior Class President. KSU and Washburn, Kappa Sig at Washburn.
Joined the AF in '66. Stayed for a 30 year career; promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in Dec 83. Stationed in Texas(Amarillo AFB(ATC)), Ohio(Wright Patterson AFB(AFLC), Alaska(Eielson AFB(ACC), Wyoming(FE Warren AFB(SAC), Colorado(United States Air Force Academy), California(Vandenberg AFB(SAC & AFSC), North Dakota(Grand Forks AFB(SAC &ACC) and Louisiana(HQ 8AF, Barksdale AFB(ACC) and mutiple overseas TDY locations. Retired in '96 as Command Chief Master Sergeant/HQ 8AF and retired in Colorado Springs,CO Physical Therapy was my AF speciality, I was in hospital clinics until '70. Then assigned to the Athletic Training Room as an Athletic Trainer traveling with cadet intercollegiate teams - Varsity and JV football and Ice Hockey, primarily. After making Chief Master Sergeant it was back to hospital work as Chief, Personnel and Admin for a short while. I then was selected as Senior Enlisted Advisor(SEA)/Command Chief with SAMTO(AFSC),Vandenberg AFB, 42AD, 319 BW/321SMW(SAC & ACC)Grand Forks AFB, and HQ 8AF(ACC)Barksdale AFB.

ried the former Pat Gladfelter, THS '64, in '67. Two kids- Wendi, married, mother of grandson Jasper and granddaughter Iris, living in Minneapolis and Jason,reently married living in Denver,CO.
I worked for Colorado Sports and Spine Centers, a 7 location full service PT and Psych clinic, where I was the Lead Physical Therapy Assistant. I specialized in patients with Chronic or Long-term pain issues. I retired from CSSC in Aug 07.
My hobbies are: motorcycling on the many dirt trails here in the mountains with Jason(our son) and some of his friends, none of my old buddies still ride; for inside times I'm into HO scale model railroading(transition era Santa Fe) and enjoying sports events at the Air Force Academy.
Pat and I enjoy just getting into the car on a whim and driving somewhere. Unplanned, no specific destination; great way to see scenery and enjoy people.
In retired life I'm a volunteer at a local therapuetic Rding stable. Working with "challenged kids and adults", teaching them to ride and develop as confident members of society. I also work with the horse herd developing their abilities for our special needs.
Atended our Golden Reunion last fall and had the time of my life, so many people and so little time to reacquaint, but soooo much FUN !!
