William's Story

Began school at Heuvelton in 5th grade with Miss Klaus in 1965. Mrs. Brown was my 6th grade teacher. Remember those brain-washing news reels we watched in the audio room? Remember the 1966 Christmas recital with Charles Kingsley, my brother Ed and me as the Three Kings of Orient? Then it was on to "the other side of the school" past Purgatory Hall for 7th grade with Mrs. Greene. Remember the record hops in the gym? Donkey Basketball? Hutchinson's beach on River Road? Good 'ol bus 13? The Town Hall dances? John Wood's band? Herb Hugh's band? Mike Streeter's band? Maximus Super beer! Boone's Farm wine! Seeds and stems! Basketball games (the Lisbon rivalry) and Helen's Restaurant for cheeseburgers and fries w/ gravy? Anyone recall Lasher's Boy Scouts or David Whitmoyer's Explorer Scouts Troop? Remember the bed sheet with the peace sign hanging from the water tower? How about the ice carnivals and building those snow statues? Who can forget the Labor Day Festivities? Your first time LEGALLY in Doug's for a beer? WHAT A GREAT LITTLE VILLAGE TO GROW UP IN! I didn't have a senior year (thanks Mr. Stitt) and graduated while at Upward Bound at St. Lawrence U. in August, 1972 taking the 12th grade English at Canton High. One year at Potsdam State University (thanks Gordon Drummond). Co...Expand for more
ntinued higher education (thanks Timothy Leary) and expanded my thinking. Fired from doing haying too slow for Alvin Steele in summer '73, ($1 a wagon load...bailed and mowed) then moved to Rhode Island on a whim July 11, 1973 with $40 and a box of Beatles albums. Been here since, except for a year in Dayton, Ohio. Married twice (looking for the charm!) have two sons, four grandsons (with another due) and a granddaughter. Oldest son Ed (37), named after brother Ed (who was killed in jeep accident in Texas by a drunk driver from Ogdensburg), builds heating systems and my youngest son Eric (35) has two Masters degrees (American and German) in Engineering and works at BMW. Me? I design packaging, make custom plastic items, invented the GROOVMASTER which is for cleaning records (check youtube, Amazon and ebay), wrote the book Superstar In A Masquerade about three influential musicians from Tulsa... Leon Russell, David Gates and JJ Cale. OH... and I am still a fan of that quartet from Liverpool, England that had a hit or two and sold a few records. Maybe you heard of them... The Beatles. I have incredible memories of growing up in Heuvelton and in Ogdensburg before that and in Madrid before that and in Ogdensburg before that and in Syracuse where I was born! Who Knew? How about YOU?
