Willie's Story
Left Williston in 1964 to enter the U.S. Army and in 1965 I was a an Airborne Paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade inVietnam. October 1965 I was severely and evacuated to Hiawaii and then to Walter Reed Hospital in Washigton DC. I remain hospitalized for almost a year. From there I was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg, NC. I ended up doing a couple of tours overseas and finally in the Gulf War. Highly decorated I retired from the U.S. A rmy you in 1991 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank that can be obtained. In January 1992 I became a PoliceOfficer with the Fayetteville a Police Department where I worked as a Patrol and a Field Training Officer for years . I then became a NC State Certified police Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Physical Fitness Instructor, SWAT Instructor and many other Instructor certifications. I received the Pyrple Heart for Wounds Substained in Vietnam and the Polce Heart for being wounded in action as a Police Officer. After getting prostate cancer ( from agent orange in Vietnam I retired from the Police Department in 2007 after having robotic surgery removing the prostate . Prior to leaving he a Department I obtained an Associate Degree, a Bachelors Degree, and a Master Of Public Administration a Degree in Criminal Justice. I taught Criminal Justice for Fayetteville Technical Community College for 13 years and at Campbell Univetsity for 6 years. Today I am Married to my gorgeous Wife "Amy." I have five children and 9 grandchildren. Amy and I reside in Fayetteville, NC in the county and we own a vacation home on Carolina Beach. Amy is a very successful College Administrator. At Williston Sr. High I ran track, playedinvthe vand one year and played football under Coach Corbin. I was the second string center to Carlyle Grisset. Today I am a disabled but proud veteran who loves God and Life.
