Willie's Story

Update 6/25/2011 On going Life: It has been two years since my right leg amputation and kidney transplant and life is stable. I live each day as if there is no tomorrow and try to enjoy each and every moment. I have 3 daughters, 3 grandsons and 1 grand daughter. I'm trying to connect with friends from my past. I want to connect with those from grade school, high school, college and the Army. I'm trying to see how my old friends are doing. I also want to know who has departed and who is still with me on this journey thru life. I have a life plan to live until I'm 103 but I will only live as long as GOD has faith me in to continue. Life **Update 7/31/2009: Life has been good for me. Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read my short bio. Since high school, I have been fortunate enough to have helped raise three daughters, graduated from college, retire from the Army and earn a Masters Degree. I have lived in Japan, Korea, Okinawa, and Germany. I have visited almost as many countries as I have states in the United States (43). My favorite past time is to travel. As long as I have the health and the means, I will never let too much grass grow beneath my feet. I will have enough time for that when my time has come to leave the space north of the earth. School I loved high school. It was a time for me to learn what it meant to grow up. I made many great friends and learned how to play sports. I didn't, however, learn what I wanted to do with my life. I still don't know but I have no regrets so far. Military** I joined the Army in 1970. I retired in 1993. I met lots of great people and lived in some wonderful places around the world. I learned a lot about being a man, a husband, a father, and a soldier. I am still learning and hope the lessons never end. If I were to start over I would do all again with just a few adjustments. One of my greatest achievements, after the births...Expand for more
of my 3 daughters, occurred in 1976. As a member of a R&B Band in Japan I was selected to sing at the Kennedy Arts Center on the 200th birthday of the U.S Army. We preformed in 7 sold out performances. Life after Military** Since 1994 I have worked as a Human Resources Specialist. Most of my time was spent as a recruiter. I recruited teachers, defense contractors, communications companies, and state and federal government agencies. I became a diabetic in 1990. For the next 5 years I was in denial of the condition. In 1995 I began taking better care of myself, but damage had been down. In 1995 I had my first minor heart attack and had stints placed near my heart. In 2005 I lost kidney functions and was placed on dialysis 3 days a week for 5 hours a day. In 2006 I got an infection in my right leg. I lost my lower right leg to amputation in March 2008. In July 2008 I was given a kidney by my former son-in-law. I am happy to say that on 5/22/2009 I took a disability retirement from the federal government. I now have more time to travel. GOD is great. Life is good. Update: 3/08/2013 I remarried in 2007. My third marriage. To be honest I never thought I would be married once but I found 3 different women that cared enough about me to share my last name and life for a period of time. I have one daughter by my first wife, two by my second and none by my third. I have three grandsons and one granddaughter. My granddaughter is in control. My current wife and I live in Prescott, WI, approx. 15 miles SE of Minneapolis, MN. I have lived in the Minneapolis area, off and on, since 1986. Since I retired in 2007 I have travel in and outside of the US but not as much as I like and not as much as I'm going to. I have more life to live and enjoy. BTW, I spend a fair amount of time with a former student from Lindblom Tech, Jesse Fair. He lives about 53 miles from me in Rochester, MN. More to come!!
