Wilma's Story

Life Retired 10/30/97 from AT&T after 32.8 years as a Cable Engineer. I stayed retired for several years completing projects around my home. For several years, I have been to Alaska during the salmon run fishing for king and red (sockeye) salmon, and finally went halibut fishing in the Alaskan Sound for the very first time. I travel some with my brother and his wife in their motor home. In February we visited Key West and stayed in the Keys. What a place expecially when it's cold in Conyers! For those that know my brother, he is retired from the US Postal Service and lives with his wife, Elaine, and their two dogs. I retired at age 52 before him. Since he is older than I am, he didn't like me retiring before him at all! This past May (2008), I was in New York doing the stadium tour. This is the last year for the Mets and Yankees to play in the old stadiums. Not only did we attend games, we were able to see the new stadiums as well. We drove over to Philly and caught one of their games as well. I worked for Proctor and Gamble (P&G) part time for four years as a Retail Merchandiser. My schedule was flexible and found it very interesting work. Two years ago, I was asked to consult for an AT&T Engineer in Idaho. Earlier this year, I was asked by another Engineer in Kansas City to consult for him. So now I have two part time jobs and they are still flexible. I love it! I have been divorced since 12/82. I tell people my husband ran off with my best friend (and I sure do miss her!). That ...Expand for more
is not true, however, it does get a laugh. I have a wonderful step daughter, Mollie, in Orlando. She works for the Federal Court and is married to a U.S. Marshal. I also have a 9 year old Boston Terrier named Katy...she is the love of my life and so much company. We live in Conyers, Ga. and enjoy our neighbors, yard work, grilling out and swimming with friends and neighbors, cooking, sports and entertaining. Come to see us!!!! College Unfortunately, I didn't make it to college. I immediately went to work at Kennestone Hospital as a Nurses Aide (which I LOVED), and was promoted to a Ward Secretary. I quit there to accept a part time position with the US Army Headquarters located on Ponce de Leon Ave. next to Sears. This was to be a four month assignment which turned out to be ten months. While working there, I met Tommy Aaron, the professional golfer, and many others. He came in for his two week duty and played golf with the General for two weeks. I guess priviledge does come to some...not me! I also made friends with many folks, one that would later become a roommate when I moved to Atlanta at age 19. I was engaged at the time to a fellow from Cartersville. When I saw the opportunities in Atlanta, I immediately returned the ring. After ten months, my service time was over as they moved the Atlanta records to the Headquarters in St. Louis. Wow, what a time I had at that place. I then interviewed with AT&T and was hired immediately...and that is when the story gets really interesting!
