Yolanda's Story
After high school, I went to Moorpark College for a couple of years and then got hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department In April of 1988. I graduated from their academy in November 1988 and went to work at Sybill Brand Institute for Women (a jail for women) in Los Angeles.
While I was working there, I met my husband, Mike. He was also a Deputy Sheriff and that was his assignment at the time. After two years I was assigned to the Patrol Division at the Temple City Sheriff Station. This station covered the cites of South Pasadena, Monrovia, Duarte, South San Gabriel, El Monte, Rosemead, and Temple City. I spent four years there.
In August 1994, we moved to Orem, Utah where I continued my law enforcement career. I worked many different assignments while I was there. My last assignment was being a Sergeant in the Detective Division. I retired on December 30, 2010 with 22 years in law enforcement. My doctors and my husband strongly advised me to retire due to being on a blood thinner medication. Being...Expand for more
on this medication made my job more dangerous than it already was. So I retired.
I am currently working working full time as a court clerk. I receive and record payments for traffic citations and judgments, sign people up for traffic school and will be eventually trained to work in the court taking minutes for our judge.
My other passion is my family. My husband Mike and I have been married for twenty-two years. Together we have five boys. Mike's son, Bradley, is 26, and lives in California. Our sons are Anthony, 22, Timothy, 20, Lucas, 18 and Jacob, 11. In March 1999, I had a miscarriage at twenty weeks. He was also a boy and we named him Daniel. I now have two daughter-in-laws, Julianne, who married Anthony this year and Evan who married Timothy last year. They all keep us pretty busy with this or that, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They are number one in my life.
I hope all is well with everyone who might read this. Take care and send me a message on how you are doing.
