Yuliya's Story

Life Hi everyone who is reading this right now. This is Yuliya speaking or writing at this point. My life is pretty ordinary I guess. I graduated from Midwood HS in 2000, and entered LaGuardia CC. I am now a licensed veterinary technician trying to finish my bachelor's degree for vet tech pre-vet medicine. It is not easy as we all know. I picked a career where my patients cannot tell me their problems, therefore we must speak for them, and try to help out the best way we can. I am not married yet; pretty much available at this point. I do have two pets though, that I saved from being put to sleep from LaGuardia. I have a mixed breed dog, Lilliya, and a DSH cat named Josie. They don't like each other very much. I have two jobs, but those I will discuss in the workplace section. I currently still live with my family in Brooklyn, not too far away from the memories. Don't feel like moving out just yet. lol School There is not much to say about the school years. I haven't done much up until I was in the 11th grade. I realized that I badly wanted to join a team of some sort, so that's how I ended up a lady hornet by being on the track team. It was the best experience ever. I never won any medals, but that's not why I joined. I learned to think while running, it was my time to myself. I do have a few favorite professors that I will always remember. We'll start with Mr. Berstein, who taught Science and Biology to 9th and 10th graders. I always loved those classes, up until I got to college only to start to dislike the class thanks to the professors there :( . Then there was Mr. Kolotkin, teaching Psychobiology and Zoology; those were pretty interesting and intense classes. I was always the one reaching for the scalpel to try to dissect some part of the specimen. Ms. DeSimone, my biology teacher, was also the best. Then comes Ms. Barabash, for creative writing. I can't believe the names are just pouring out, I don't even have to sit and think about it. Oh well, guess they really did have and affect on me. Then there was Mr. Cohen, who was my track coach. Even when I felt ...Expand for more
down, I tried my best to run and succeed, always finishing the race, even if it meant I had to crawl over the finish line. I enjoyed the junior and senior trips very much. I also had fun during the prom, especially since I was part of the prom committee. I waited for that night all four years, and sadly only to go there without a date. But that doesn't matter, I enjoyed the evening. College Wow, this will be a full list. Get ready. I'm still in college, not my fault really. It just worked out that way. Anyways right after Midwood, I attended LaGuardia CC in Queens. I graduated from their two year program with an AAS degree in Veterinary Technology. I was very proud of myself. Then I moved on to Mercy College in Weschester County. I am still part of that school, trying to finish my bachelors degree. It's a long story. In between I attended College of Staten Island, Brooklyn College and oh wait I think that's it; for now. Later comes Vet school, into which I'm badly trying to get in. I never went away to a live in dorm, and you know what, I don't think I missed out on a lot. I enjoyed working and going to school; always coming home to sleep. Workplace I am very proud of my jobs. While being in HS, I cleaned in a pharmacy, only twice a week, getting $20/week; and I used that money wisely. Then my first official check job being a main floor cashier in a sporting goods store Paragon Sports; located on Broadway and E.18th.st. I was there for 2.2 years, and then I finally had to leave because I had another job, where I was actually applying the skills learned in school to help the animals. I worked in a privately owned animal hospital in Staten Island, and I actually still work there now; it will be 4 years this June. They kept me from the internship; guess they made a wise decision. Currently I also have another job in Long Island, working as a licensed vet tech in and ICU ward. This is my full time job; staten island is only once a week now. I can't leave them, I've grown there. So here I am, working two jobs, trying to have a social life, and finishing my degree.
