Yvette's Story

So it goes. After rearing my children, I felt restless sooooo start earning the greenback. First opened my own catering business. You know, turned a hobby into a job and after three years, hated the job. So took a position in the State's Dept. of Nat'l Res O&G Permitting section. When it closed in '86, took a position at UNO and stayed for over 21 yrs. There I was the Assistant to the Dean of Junior Division until the new chancellor thought it an unnecessary division - closed it and "advanced my boss to the position of Associate Provost" where which he took me along, I was miserable in upper admin so when offered a job in BioSci as assistant to the Chair, I left the good Dean and entered a lower level of admin, but at least I got to work with faculty and students and be of some service rather than pushing papers. I stayed in BioSci for 18.5 years, fought with upper administration - felt accomplished, as the Dean had trained me excellently (I had to learn the Rules and Regulations at UNO and the State levels - both academia and business), I was able to assist students and faculty alike. nd in some cases became their "Mom away from home". To this day, some if those who have graduated, obtained jobs in different cities and countries, still keep in contact with me. I was President of the Louisiana Association of Educational Office Professionals and had also held the position of President of the local chapter at UNO. On a personal level, I was married to a wonderful man for over 38 years until his death in 2001. I've two equally wonderful children, boy and girl, two grandchildren, boy and girl, and as my son married a lady with older children - two step-grandchildren, boy and girl, and three step-greatgrandchildren, 2 boys one girl. My greatest accomplishments are my children. My cup runneth over. I obtained my high school dream and travel to Greece in 2004. Yes, I stood on the Acropolis in Athens, saw Mt. Olympus, and sailed the Aegean, feasted on roasted lamb and musaka. Wonderful....I've sailed the eastern Carribean and once the west coast down to Puerto Valerto. After the kiddies left the nest, we cruised for vacations. Ray loved the Carribean. Unlike the subdued person I might have been in high school, I've become a strong woman, you might call me the "Kitten that Roared" as I turned out to be quite an achiever in both my personal and business life. The only regret I have is that my time with Ray was too short. Enough of me......Bye
