Yvonne's Story

I hope my friends remember me as having a good sense of humor and liked being around me because I could make them laugh and feel better. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I guess the wildest thing I and some friends did was pushed a friend's Volkswagen to the Ohio River and pushed it into the shallow water. Being a "Wagen" and shallow water, all he had to do was drive it out. My hero is my son Shannon. He was in Iraq and while there captured 7 prisoners. He was on burial detail. His job was to dig huge trenches and push bodies into them-even children. He also was assigned to go into mine fields and detonate them before the foot troops came in. He came home and still thinks about that but is able to still be a wonderful young man who succeeded in spite of me. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Danny Parker, because I went steady with him and he was drop dead gorgeous. I'd like to see how he aged.. My obsession is my pets. In the past 35 yrs I have had over 200 dogs, several cats, a squirrel, rabbits, birds, turtles and hamsters. People can lie about how they feel, but a dog will either lick you or bite you. I like to lay down in the early afternoon with my dogs on the bed-If it has 4 legs, fur or barks, I love it- and read the gossip rag tabloids-mindless drivel. My biggest surprise in life is the way my health has turned out. I am currently diagnosed with 4 potentially fatal illnesses with no cures and have had cancer twice, 3 heart attacks, 2 strokes and broke my hip recently. Right now I am recovering from major lung surgery. I have seveeral tumors and doc's removed some for biopsy and said they have no clue what it is. I'm on steroids and breathing treatments to see if the rest of them go away or will have to be cut out. I have been the "popcorn lady" for Greater Clark schools over 48 yrs and have grown people come up to me and tell...Expand for more
me how much they enjoyed my popcorn. Right now, I'm popping at Thomas Jefferson and this is my last year. as my last grandchild will be leaving for middle school. My career goals have been pretty much met as I envisioned them. A masters in nursing and a colonel in the Marines. Now I stay home in my "castle" with my hubby-the best Christian man I have ever known-I had to kiss a LOT of frogs to find my prince. I think my first crush still lives in the area but he has grown into a bitter old man-probably attributed in part to the fact that some weird people pushed his car in the river- and I probably wouldn't even like him now so I keep the idea of what he was years ago. in my memory and thanks in my heart that I went a different way than him. My best friend would tell you I'm crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as fun. The weirdest job I had was sniffing furniture. I have an over delevoped sense of smell and I would smell furniture that had been cleaned after being in a fire to determine if it still had a smoky odor . In 1992 I won the Indiana Jaycees writing competition and won 4th place in the nationals in Portland, Oregon. I also was the first female president of the Clarksville Jaycee Chapter. I think everyone would be surprised to see that I no longer am as huge as I was. My current fighting weight is 125 lbs from an all time high of 364 lbs . I hope that all of my friends are doing well and that they ocassionally think about me, as I do them, and go," I wonder how she's doing? I wish I could see her/him" If I won $100 million, I'd give 200,000 of it to my church, then spend the rest on housing, education and help for unwed/single moms to get back on their feet. Then I'd build kennels and take as many rescue pets as I could get.. I'm retired because of disabilities but am still alive and not nearly as bad off as some people. In 10 years, I hope to be in Heaven. I'm going to get there by serving the living Saviour.
