Yvonne's Story

Life Hi Everyone, I and my husband Tom are living on my reservation, San Carlos Apache Nation in Arizona. We have been here since 1994. We live only 5 miles away East of Globe, Az, where Ernie Kivisto lived in the early 50's and 70's. What a family connection. Mr Kivisto taught English to my brother, who I was raised with, in 1956. He taught me in 1962. Then in the 70's, he taught two of my siblings here in Arizona. My husband and I were blessed with two daughters. We lost our youngest in a motorcycle accident along with her fiance. She was 24. Our oldest is 35 and is in the Air Force. She has two sons who are living in Alabama with their father. They are divorced. As for my career I have been blessed. I am a Register Nurse with a Bachelor degree in Nursing from University of Ill. College of Nursing. And obtained a Master degree in Health Care Administration from College of St. Francis, Joliet, Ill. I received the most outstanding Alumni award from University of Ill. 2002. Then I received the most recent outstanding Alumni award from University ...Expand for more
of St. Francis, Oct, 2004. I worked for the government, Indian Health Service. I became the Chair-person for the National Council of Nurse Administrators, for Indian Nations. I had the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. and meet important people. Now I am retired due to a long story about a birth defect in my brain which was diagnosed in 2003. I didn't know I had this. Yes, this is why I am blessed. I am partially blind in my right eye since birth, which I didn't know, medically I am supposed to not to have any children, and I am surprising doctors that I am functioning normally and to have a master degree. I knew I had a learning disability in English and in Reading but I persist in obtaing my degrees. The medical symptoms developed after the stress of losing our daughter. Now I have physical problems with my arms and legs, mostly difficulty walking. Theorically I was born to be this way. I see this my pathway of life. There is always something else for me to do in my life. Right. Workplace See my life bio. It is so connected together.
