Yvonne's Story
Still reading novels and teaching literature and composition to teenagers, I have fulfilled my desire to travel since 1992 by visiting my relatives--a daughter in Hong Kong, son in Japan, sister in Moscow, another sister in Bavaria, a colleague in England. The piece de resistance was chugging up the Amazon with my son, a former navy corpsman, on a grant I got from Geraldine Dodge.
After teaching in Cucuta, Colombia in 1964, I came back to Michigan to teach and married the boy Maynadene MacKenzie introduced me to at our graduation.

force life, we divorced and I continued teaching, did all that travelling I mentioned above. Now I live near my daughter's family and near our alabaster-city-gleaming. I like the cultural life of D.C. and taking visitors to historical sites, charming restaurants, foreign films and live theater.
Another grant I got put me in the vault of the Folger Library Reading Room--an English teacher's dream. I first heard about it in Mr. Whitman's senior English class. Now I have been there--and the vault, no less, touching the vellum pages on which Henry VIII wrote his notes.
